DVDslideshow GUI v0.9.0.4 & v0.0.9.0.5 question/problem

Hi tin3tin,
1st let me say the DVD Slideshow GUI package is an impressive tool.

I've noticed the following (issues):

1) Using the install software if one tries to produce a DVD using the DVD icon when the process tries to execute the mkisofs.exe it complains about not being able to find cygwin1.dll. This dll apparently needs to be installed in the DVDSlideshow GUI /bin directory to be able to do a direct DVD build. Should it be included as part of the distribution/install package? (I copied the copy of cygwin1.dll from my DVD-RB folder into the /bin folder and the process will run ok).

2) When the DVD is generated using the ImgBurn option, the first slide in the resulting DVD is missing. The silde is present in the DVDsGUIBurntemp_e0.m2v file that is generated and present in the DVDslideshow main folder. If one builds a dvd using Muxman and that .m2v, then builds an iso image with ImgBurn, then burn that image, the slide is present. Likewise exporting the slide show as an mpg file the slide is present in the resulting mpg. The slide is present if the slides how is previewed using the preview option in the task bar.

3) If an additional slide is imported to the ( my case 1st?) position in the file, a later thumbnail changes to the view of that slide added. In my case the 9th thumbnail. Opening that slide with the slide settings option, the actual image is presented. If one saves the project and reloads it successfully (see 4 below), the thumbnail is displayed correctly when the project is reloaded.

4) I haven't been able to nail down the sequence, but if the project is saved and then reloaded in a later session and the 1st thing one attempts to directly build a DVD (see attached png) an error window opens up and the GUI terminates. I believe if the preview option is used to preview the slide show, and then following that the do the ImgBurn the process will work.

Thanks for any clarification that can be supplied about these items, it may be cockpit error on my part.

I am really impressed with the features that DVDslideshow GUI offers and it is really cool. I got interested in looking for a slideshow program for a friend that is not terribly experienced in PC software and found this program. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: and I would recommend it to any user. I have previously used one of my DVD authoring programs to build a slide show, and this software has a lot more features.

Thanks for getting back. :) Item 3 may be a video driver problem. I have ATI PCI Express video cards in both machines (both use same drivers) although I haven't tried to duplicate the problem on my 2nd machine. The friend I spoke of should be trying out the program in the near future I'll find out what his experience is with that issue.

I'll keep checking back on this forum to see what you find out.

Yep, they are fixed. Oooops beat me with a stick, there is still a problem with the DVD generation, I didn't do a very good beta test :mad: Thanks for the fast turn around. BTW I did send you a PM. :thanks:

Again thanks and keep up the good work!!!!!! :) I'm looking forward to trying some of the other features. It may take me a couple of weeks to work through all of them :cool:

The direct ImgBurn DVD did not have a VIDEO_TS.IFO or .BMP file in the VIDEO_TS folder. Building the DVD with MuxMan using the .m2v and .ac3 files in the DVD Slideshow Folder did have them. Also VTS_01_0.IFO and BMP files were smaller. Will PM the data to you in 2nd PM. The Direct ImgBurn DVD would play in Roxio DVD Max Play (I'll use that as the excuse), PGCEdit didn't like it.

I couldn't seem to do an attachment in the PM. Here are the folders from the two DVD builds. Don't know if the Mkisofs screen cap will help, I did it on the fly.

Just started to playing around a bit with yout tool and - IT'S WONDERFULL!! Looking around for years for a tool like that (did this with nero in the past).

P.S.: One first request : A random function for the transition effects with a user defined pool of transitions. I don't like every transition so I would like to take my fav. for example 20 transitions and switch between them randomly.

One bug: saving the project-settings when quitting the program does not work in any cases, for example "safe area", "safe-x" and save-y" value. Progamm is starting allways with it's default values, editing "new.ini" also does not take effect.

Hi hope your w/e was a restful one. We're just about to get down to the nitty gritty with this year's presidential election (it's been a long process).

I noticed the newer version 0.9.0.7b out on the web site. I'm not sure what happened with that version, but it looks like the ability to set the save areas is broken. Always goes back to the default settings of x:72, y:50. I blew away my 0.9.0.7(a) version in my backup files by mistake, so I have nothing to fall back on. :mad:

Also my friend is trying out the software and he's trying to do something like 720 files and is having difficulty. He has a small machine with only 1G of RAM. He also had too small a swap file. He's using the current 0.9.0.7b version.

I'm in the process of reinstalling Win XP Pro on one of my machines. When I get that done I'll try a really large number of files and get back to you. Is there a limit on the number of slides that can be handled?

I really don't know about that big slideshows as it depends on your hardware, when you're running out of RAM and harddisk space. If rendering that big slideshows I would advise you to keep an eye on the used RAM(ctrl+alt+del) and on free space on the drive DSG is installed to and the freespace on the drive you save your exported file to.

BTW. there has been some changes in the memory handeling of the recent versions of Avisynth for the better. But loading that many slides into the RAM will take time(and may look like it hangs) and eat op a lot of RAM(use virtual RAM too).

Yes, but how can I change them (the starting-default-settings)?
That was exactly the point from my first post. I can set "Project settings" and save them into a new project "project.dsg". Everytime I load this project I get the wanted changed settings, so far so good. But If I use exactly the same changed settings in "new.ini" (or replace "new.ini" with "project.dsg") the values are ignored when starting the program. Are they hard-coded into the .exe?

My bad, they are saveable as long as one doesn't touch the Safex and Safey buttons. In trying to explain stuff to the guy I'm working with, I got wrapped around the axle. Two things though:

If one moves the Project Settings window by grabbing the title bar the slide image in the window doesn't seem to track until one clicks in the window (may be a driver problem, or codec). Putting the cursor into the slide preview window and left clicking centers the slide, or clicking the Play button on the bottom of the window will start playing the slide, and centers it.

I can't see the guys monitor, but he claims that when he opens the Project Settings window, the Import Slide settings Slide buttons are not visible, he says it looks likes there is something there, but it's compressed. It works fine on my monitor.

Opening new project keeps all the settings, but the
Starte Save x and Safe y. These are reset to the default values of 72 50. (I think this has been mentioned before by another user).

Sorry to take so long to get back, I had problems with my machine and had to reload Win XP from scratch. I'm still working on it, but have gotten a lot reloaded. :mad:

On the really large slide show issue I haven't had a chance to try it yet on my machine. But will as soon as I get this machine all reloaded. His machine is a Dell Pentiume 2.4Ghz, with 1G of RAM. We did have to increase the size of the page file system. I could be he just isn't waiting long enough.

I've suggested he cut the number of slides down to 100 and build each part as a m2v file. I'll see if we can "stitch" them together. May run into same problem, but I'll let you know when he gets a chance to get back to me.

I finally got around to trying 0.9.0.8. I noticed one problem. If the resolution is set to 720x480 4:3 NTSC and a project is encoded it's ok, however if that project is saved and then reloaded (at least in a new session) the projects page shows 720x480 NTSC, and the safe x and y are shown as the default values (72 50) but when the video is encoded the video will be encoded as 720x576@ 29.97 fps and the safe areas are encoded as the values that were saved with the project. Things seem correct if the 720x480 NTSC 16:9 is selected.

If one goes back and reselects the 720x480 4:3 NTSC in the project window and then do an OK, the video will encode as 720x480 @ 29.97, but the safe x and y values have to be re entered since they are reset to the default values.

Sorry to be such a pain.
