View Full Version : Popcorn Hour A-100/A-110
mkv is not parsed in hardware which could lead to stuttering in high bitrates (i.e. BD remuxes). if you stay in m2ts/ts video is parsed in hardware and (almost) everything is fine.... but the performance depends also on from where you play your files. http and smb protocols work quite good (for mkv too!) unlike USB which is slower....
only this bug is bothering me a lot: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=10602

kurt in my experience there are some problems with free remuxing of the casino royale bitstream into ts dunno 100% why but commercial remuxing yielded better results but that was way way in the release time of casino royale so that situation could have been better now with open source m2ts -> ts cut & remuxing solutions :)
hm, open source cut and remuxing solutions? are there any besides of tsmuxer? and which are the commercial ones?
back then I just remuxed casino royale with tsmuxer (can't remember the version). unfortunately I don't have the source stream to retry with newer versions....
but more and more people find problematic ts/m2ts streams (I guess some of them were "really" untouched) like juno, king arthur, pulp fiction.... btw: this bug is only addressed in 24p mode...

Hi Reiner,
Are other computers able to see data stored on external HDD's connected via USB to the A110?
I didnīt try an external HD but a USB Stick, which works fine acting as a seperate network share (one internal HD, one external Stick).
I havenīt reached a limit with MKV-Files so far but Iīll try the one linked above and report back. So far it seems that difference in power consumption is suttle between different containers, resolutions etc... Iīll try out some more..
Over the network, the speed realy isnīt that great, so this definitely is a limit when dealing with very high bitrates. USB is a little better but not up to the max possible. Internal Hardrive seems ok, but I didnīt do max-tests so far, I just can say "it worked" so far... The only files not working where the ones using a too high profile for the chips specs...
the Popcorn-hours RISC-Chip could be set to some work as soon as I implement RAR-Handling, wich I didnīt need so far. The community INstaller should have some means to install this without too much trouble...
Iīll be back...

Im using Xmuxer from Elecard for such edits no problem till now with any parser (hardware/software) though i guess ffmpeg libavmux should be able to remux m2ts to ts or other by now isn't it ?
Maybe you should have a peak over here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146795 might be your Digital TV is failing in some scenes with to High Motion in 24p ?

Although, due to its age, the Ziova's feature set is quite a bit behind the A110 ;)
the Popcorn-hours RISC-Chip could be set to some work as soon as I implement RAR-Handling, wich I didnīt need so far. The community INstaller should have some means to install this without too much trouble...Interesting flexibility...

Hi kurt,
With regard to your Casino Royale issue, I looked at your 200MB sample and can confirm it plays without stuttering on my Ziova CS615
By-the-way.... did you try speeding up the frame rate from 23.976 to 24.000?

thx! will try to remux the ts. It stutters on my PCH A100 in 1080p23 mode (no problems in 1080p60) and it was confirmed WD Digital TV plays it without problems...

nope, since almost all other videos with framerate of 23,976 plays flawlessly on my Pio. remuxing to mkv and playing the file via smb/myihome solves the prolem. but over USB the performance is quite poor so it stutters... conclusion: PCH handles "some" ts files in 1080p23 mode not correctly....
