I'm trying to encode some old cartoons from dvd to xvid using autoGK. Well, I get compression ratio of 10% and end result is horrible. Source is interlaced PAL material, noisy and very blocky, so it's a hard one to autoGK.

So I figured that I'll just soften image and deblock it (dvd source) with ffdshow filter but I cannot get ffdshow filter work with autoGK and virtualdub, it just won't show up.

Any help, please.

10% is going to suck, period. WMV or RealMedia would be much better suited for that level of compression.

AutoGK isn't designed to work with ffdshow filter, and even if it did it wouldn't help much at that level of compression.

But how can compression ratio even be 10%?? Original media is PAL interlaced 720x576, 25min and ~900meg. I'm trying to make 640x480 with 350 meg. That's something like 1:3 compression

For comparison normal movie dvdrip (120min) is something like 1:10 compression. So how the hell it's even possible to achieve 10%? It should be more like 80%

WMV or RealMedia would be much better suited for that level of compression.Xvid certainly isn't suited for that level of compression, but recommending WMV or RealMedia instead is just as silly if not moreso.

Oh lord this is so embarrassing:o
while AutoGK lets me ghoose PGC, the output file contais all PGC:s and thus my 350meg file contains all 4 episodes instead of 1.

This whole topic can be removed as it serves no useful info whatsoever

Pre-rip your disk with DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, which will let you select easily the individual episodes. There are very few episodic disks that contain advanced copy protection that will thwart DVD Decrypter.

Regardless of your final file containing 1 or 4 episodes, the quality of the final video will be the same when you select the 10% compression in AutoGK.
