View Full Version : Why are DVDs opened via VIDEO_TS.IFO shorter than if opened through the VTS IFO?

This seems to be the case for all my DVDs, running them through MPC. The shorter length corresponds to 24 fps and the longer length to 23.976 fps. Why does MPC play the same movie at different speeds (I'm guessing this is what is happening), and how does it keep the audio in sync when playing at 24 fps? I'd like my StaxRip encodes to be of the 24 fps length (so that chapters sync correctly) but the audio never syncs up if I do so. Would it be a bad idea to speed it up via a Besweet encode?

Hi!
This sounds like you've created a third thread seeking information about the same situation:

Sorry about that, just deleted my original thread since I know a bit more about what's going on with this now. I'll leave this and the post on the staxrip thread up if that's ok.

ok, found a good workaround: I use mkvmerge to mux my final video at 24 fps and stretch the audio and subtitles I have by 0.999. This keeps all my files intact and gives me playback identical to playing a DVD via VIDEO_TS.IFO.
