well first pass goes all fine , when the second pass starts right that instant it automatically ends giving me a 1 KB xvid file ( obviously second pass crashes ) and the bitrate is 0 kb as visible from the screenshot , any help please ?

happened twice already :(

it says xvid is being used by an other program but nothing is using it , its lying dormant :scared:

What's the full path of the destination file? It looks like there might be a character in the pathname (after "C:\Files ") that isn't being interpreted properly (possibly a unicode issue).

try changing your output file to just

c:\file.avi

if that works then it's a pathname problem as that's the error that xvid encraw is outputting.

squid_80

It'll be a pathname problem (unlikely), permissions problem (no write access) or something else already has the destination file open.

tried saving on another path with another file name as well . still same problem

its a root admin account , no restrictions .

nothing already has the destination file open .

anthing else :/ ?

I really need to see the full log, without the obscured filenames and the full correct commandline used (the commandline you posted has -threads 4, but the log screenshot shows more than that being used).

any help please ?

i've already started almost all of the xvid encraw build's out there ..

I can't fix it because I can't recreate the problem here and your PMs make it too hard to understand the steps being taken. AFAIK this is the only thread where this type of problem has been reported so it seems unlikely that it's an xvid_encraw issue. If you want me to try and fix it then you're going to have to know how to use a command prompt and be able to run some tests exactly as I say, or setup remote access for me on a machine that has the issues.

ankurs

sure ^

np with me .. can we talk on im/pm regarding the details ?

Do you have any particular processes that might be accessing the file, like some resident antivirus or other anti-spyware software ?

Also did you try to run an antivirus lately?

Just a question just wondering, you don't happen to run something like daemon tools etc?
not that think it should interfere with xvid normally.. but for instance if daemon tools were corrupted ...

nopes , i dont have daemon tools or any mounting tool anywhere near the pc ..

@ankurs: Did you try with another output folder ?

btw, koepi's build supplies a vfw encoder, not a cli one. MeGUI uses only command lines tools, not the vfw interface.

@ankurs,
what I could suggest now is to try a Windows repair... well if you have other problems with other applications on your machine you might try it...

ankurs
6th December 2008, 16:41
i've got no problems what so ever with other applications on the pc with the same OS and everything , only xvid_encraw isnt working , even then i've already done all the window updates and a windows repair , still no use :(

squid_80

xvid_encraw has a special output module for writing AVI files (aviwriter.dll) instead of using MS's AVIFile API. It uses code from virtualdub and has advanced methods to get the best performance possible. It creates the empty output file then re-opens it for writing; I suspect something on your pc is grabbing the file immediately after it is first created which means aviwriter can't re-open it for writing. Possible causes:
- a virus scanner
- a file sharing app
- virus/rootkit activity that isn't visible to windows

henryho_hk

Would be be the file explorer locking the temp AVI file when trying to preview it?

squid_80
9th December 2008, 07:29
Unlikely (but not impossible) since explorer won't forcefully open a file that is already open in exclusive mode. Don't know about other file explorers (total commander etc).

Do you use ffdshow? Please try to uninstall it and then do the encoding again.

no firewall process or virus scanner effecting it , x264 and all other encodes work fine .. seems a problem only with xvid .

no file sharing app being used .

no idea about the third thing , elaborate please ?

rootkit/virus ?

Would be be the file explorer locking the temp AVI file when trying to preview it?

no idea , how to judge/ensure that ?

Unlikely (but not impossible) since explorer won't forcefully open a file that is already open in exclusive mode. Don't know about other file explorers (total commander etc).

its a simple windows explorer .. and i've got no idea about this possible thing effecting the output ..

It's not about "actually using" ffdshow or not. If you're using the ffdshow "avisynth script serving" feature (I think it's called that), or you ticked it during the installation process, it usually causes that problem.

henryho_hk

Anyway, it does not hurt to disable AVI preview:

Start -> Run -> regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
Start -> Run -> regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

Forget about MeGUI, it's not relevant.
What is different between this machine and the other one?
What programs are running on this PC that aren't on the other one?
Where are the directories located?
Are both PCs using administrator logins?
What OS versions are being used?

1) The first one is the Windows is a guest OS inside VMWare. This is a native installation of Windows
2) There is nothing different in the softwares running on either PC.
3) The first one MeGUI is installed in c:\DVD ripping Tools. The second has it installed in c:\program files.
4) Both users have full administrator privileges.
5) Both are running Windows XP SP3 with all the latest patches.

Try running the test program in various different directory locations/disk drives and see if it makes a difference.

I turned off Symatec antivirus and tried it, get the same error.I'm skeptical if disabling it actually removes the nasty hooks it puts in place.
If Ankurs comes back and tells me he has Symantec installed as well, I'm going to punch something. Until then I'll see if I can find a different solution.

I will try to talk to my admins and see if they can provide me with a windows xp sp3 image without symantec installed. That would be something very unlikely that they would have.
