hi everybody
it is the first time i use autoGK and also the first time in my life I rip DVD. So far I have converted one DVD (4.7gb single layer) into AVI format but it has taken almost 6-7 hours to just finish one IFO (half of the whole DVD movie) , is it normal ? ( Converted from th original DVD broken into two DVD IFO file which is approx 2.5 hours in total, fair quality) , my hardware config is Pentinum 4 3.00GHz, 2.0GB DDR2 ram, approx 8GB harddisk available at the beginning of the process , intel 945G on board video card and sound card.. this is what all i know about my pc. Would like to know if it is normal to take that long? I use Default setting of AutoGK
by the way, there are two IFO files , so each file I use 1CD 700MB option to restrict size, but finally it turns out giving me an 1.07G file.... instead of 700MB as it states in the user tutorial, ....what's happening ..
please help, so unhappy with my first experience with it

You could have installed AutoGK with a previous version of Xvid on your system. Uninstall AutoGK, then Xvid, then reinstall AutoGK, and your files should be produced at the specified size.
Yes, it is normal for an encode to take several hours, especially when you specify a bitrate. That requires two separate encode passes and more than doubles the time it takes. It will go faster if you replace your small drive or add another one, if you run Defrag before the project, and if you pre-rip the disk to your hard-drive, and also if you select quality-based, but then you will lose control of the file output size.

excuse me, i know how to uninstall AutoGK, but how to uninstall Xvid? Then do I need to re-install Xvid again after re-installation of AutoGK?
by the way, i have two harddisk, my OS (windows XP home) is in a harddisk where only apprxo 8GB left (as I said before), but I have another harddisk that is almost 800GB left, but there is no operating system, only used for storage, how can I make use of the large space left to improve the performance of AutoGK?
Thanks

Xvid can be uninstalled via the Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel. Reinstalling AutoGK will install the necessary version of Xvid.
If, as suggested, you pre-rip the disk to your larger empty hard drive, then open those files with AutoGK, the encode will automatically go to that folder and not to your smaller drive or partition. You can also set the destination to that drive in AutoGK if you prefer to encode straight from the DVD, but you will eventually run into other problems.
Try DVD Fab HD Decrypter in Movie Only mode - it will make simple work of pre-ripping and removes the advanced copy protection on certain disks.

in fact, i only install AutoGK yesterday so there should be no older version of Xvid I installed. As you said the installation of AutoGK will guide me to install the situable version of Xvid, i can't see the point of re-installation of AutoGK. I don't mind to reinstall , it is not big deal, but I worry the same size (approx1.00GB), instead of 700MB as specified at the beginning .
Now I have re-install AutoGK and download the latest version of xvid from xvid.org, i hope everything works fine.
but i really don't understand why it takes so long to turn a DVD IFO file into AVI format (The first time I used it, it took me 6 hours to turn the 2.5 hours long DVD movie into AVI)
