I'm looking to convert some of my ac3 and mp2 audio files into aac and i was wondering if someone had a comparison chart as to what the equivalent bitrate in aac is.
Specially i'm wondering what 448 and 192kbps bitrate in aac is while maintaining the same quality also for 256kbps .mp2
I'll be using nero aac via megui. Also which is best LC or HE
Thank you.

For stereo:
AC3@320~MP2@256~LC-AAC@192
LC-AAC is designed for 96-400kbps
HE-AAC is designed for 48-95kbps
HE-AAC is designed for 0-47kbps
I suggest you to use automatic and don't care, because encoder always choose best.

HE-AAC is nothing but "normal" LC-AAC with SBR (Spectral Band Replication).
SBR is the very same technique that was already used for mp3PRO to make it perform better at low bitrates.
You really shouldn't use SBR (HE-AAC), except for ultra-low bitrates...

You really shouldn't use SBR (HE-AAC), except for ultra-low bitrates... Well no, HE-AAC should be used up to mid bitrates (96-112kbps), is not only for ultra-low, last AES test shows that 96 LC-AAC win by hair over 96 HE-AAC, but depends on source, so on 112kbps aslo HE-AAC can sometimes have bigger advantage.
