My NEC DVD burner will not read commerical DVD-videoes any more. It just starts to spin up and make some noises but nothing happens, I can't open a DVD in either DVD Shrink, DVD Decryptor or Ripit4me. I thought maybe it was something wrong with the NEC burner, but it read anything else DVD-R, old DVD movies but not any new one.

Ripit4me just displays "Waiting for DVD-Rom to be ready"

What can be wrong?

Hi!

Burners do strange things when they begin to fail, whether because of age or getting dirty. Inability to read commercial pressed media and/or double layer media is something I've been confronted with in the past.

You might try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US...

OK. So you think it is the burner? It's very strange beacause it is only 3 months old. it is a Sony NEC Optiarc DVD±RW burner AD-7203S

I have also tried to flash the drive but that did not help me either.
