I have a Nvidia 8400GS card which uses 256mb of the system memory and i have purevideo installed it seems to be quite a bit faster than the normal x264 with this dxva. Does this support ati's version of purevideo?

Also what different is the gpu core speed, ram speed and amount of ram make on the speed of encoding. I'm looking to buy a new cheap graphics card with hdmi port for my media pc but want to know whether the amount of ram makes any difference, the core speed, the ram speed and if ati cards allow gpu acceleration with dxva-hd-balanced. I use level 4.1 profile for my encodes btw. I have a quad core overclocked core 2 q6600 and 4gb ram running xp sp3 pro.

I use latest megui and latest x264 for my encodes btw.

The profile just ensures that the stream can play using DXVA acceleration. It doesn't cause x264 to use the GPU!

ahh, doh, that sucks:(

does your dgavcdecNV allow x264 to use the gpu for encoding?

No. DGAVCDecNV decodes the stream using GPU.

ahh. Is there any plans to add x264 gpu assisted encoding?

I don't know. Ask in the x264 thread.

It's already been discussed. The BadaBoom try is viewed as a failure. Dark Shikari tried accelerating some things as an experiment and was not very happy with the result. So it's pretty unlikely that this will happen. It's also doubtful that it would be worth the effort, given the speed of modern CPUs.
