hello
till now, to burn cds or dvds has been ok (with my pc bought back in 2005)
since 2-3 weeks, 8 to 9 out of 10 dvds stop during the burning always at the same time (and of course the said dvds are not usable anymore)
the software help says i have to change the dvd brand, what i did without any success
thanks in advance for any general advice:
i think the hardware (cd/dvd burner) is dead, right?!

Welcome to Doom9.
Your burner might have had it.
Post a log of your burn. In the meantime read and implement this (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49635).

Also consider running a lens cleaner on it. If it appears to burn correctly, but fails the verify, then there may be a little dirt on the laser pickup. If, on the other hand, it fails burning completely, as blutach said, your burner might unfortunately have bitten the dust and be on its way out.

what i did after consulting different boards here and there :
1- i bought a dvd-cd lens cleaner (and used it)(matroxx)
2- i used only verbatim dvd-r
3- i reinstalled my software (sonic record now)(not a good one anyway)
now it works but i do not know for sure if it is thanks to 1, 2 or 3 (because it worked with oter than verbatim as well)
conclusion : the dvd technology has still a very long way to go (to be 100%-acceptable, no?!)

Your conclusion is BS. People have burned literally millions of DVDs with great success and yet, because you have a problem (which you say is rectified), so the technology is no good? That is totally illogical and incredibly egocentrical.
