Hi!

I'm making a backup of my DVD9's and I would like to achieve the highest quality possible but keeping standalone (MTK) compatible.
Using MeGUI and XviD that comes with MeGUI and updated always.

My settings are:

Automated 2pass
Adaptive Quant ON
Trellis: OFF
PB: OFF
Nb of B-frames: 2
MSP: 6 - Ultra High
VHQ: 4 - Wide Search
VHQ for B-frames: ON
QPel: OFF
GMC: OFF
Quant: MPEG (going to 2CD rips always)
Quantizers: 1-31,1-31, 1-31, 1-31

AviSynt:
Resize: Lanczos (Sharp) or Spline36 (Neutral)
Noise Filter: Minimal Noise

Resize and Crop ON.

Any suggestions or comments on these setting? I will do a lot of encoding, so I would like to use the highest quality possible in my case (no custom quant.).

the problem is megui does not support profiles and VBV for xvid. so, compatibility with standalones is not guaranteed.
i will add them in the next days.

Testing in the German Doom9 forum showed that Xvid never respects VBV settings. So making them available in the GUI won’t make any difference until Xvid itself is fixed.

Katjarella (http://forum.gleitz.info/member.php?u=807) did most of the tests, I just followed the threads from time to time. With a quick search I couldn’t find any detailed test results but a posting where katjarella stated (http://forum.gleitz.info/showpost.php?p=358815&postcount=78) that she did try alt2pass and VBV did not work. (Usually she knows what she’s doing.)

Afaik her English is not absolutely great, but if you keep your language simple you should get along ok. I could also play the translator if needed.

Interesting to read all this! I tried to play my encoded files in my standalone player (MTK) and it plays it perfectly. Guess I have luck now.

But can you please comment a little on my settings? Concerning quality, is it good, should I use something else, or?
