Ok, I am having a heck of a time doing this. I have a .MKV file that is 720P and 6 min long. I want to put it on a DVD-R play it on a Blu-Ray player and have it loop indefinitely (commercial on display at my store).

Any tips on how to do this?

Put mkv through tsmuxer, make sure the audio is either PCM or AC3 (DTS is not officially in the Spec for AVCHD, only Bluray! Still might be playable though, it is on the PS3!) choose "BD mux" and burn the generated result (ignore the .meta file!) in UDF2.5 (e.g. in IMGburn or Nero) as an AVCHD, with the BDMV and CERTIFICATE directories in the root. Make sure the Level is set to 4.1 max, change it if you have to before muxing, since that is the maximum the Bluray/AVCHD spec allows. tsmuxer makes it loop by default, so you're lucky! ;-)
This plays perfectly on the PS3, and it should play on several other BD-players, too. They need to be AVCHD compatible though!
If yours isn't, you'll have to burn it onto a BD-R...
