converting from VHS to - something

I am planning on buyinga video card with a video-in connector. What is the best way to convert some VHS tapes to the format that can be burned on a cd-rom? Of course, it will need some form of a compression, divx maybe...

Does anyone have experience with such video cards?

It is called video capture and we have a forum for that. Being as you have not read the rules yet, please a few minutes to read them before asking over there. The guys in that forum are great and can help you.
