Can anyone recommend an application for mixing multichannel audio into 5.1 or 6.1 via some kind of visual GUI? I am trying to mix a multichannel music/sound effects track for a halloween party. I have a 6.1 setup that can play basically any audio format. I just need a relatively simple way of mixing music and cool atmospheric effects across all the channels.

Thanks!

A few that come to mind: Audacity, Reaper, SoundForge, Audition.

Thanks for the reply. I have Audacity but I've never seen how to do multichannel mixing. How would you go about panning across the 5 channels as an example?

Answered: For anyone else, Adobe Audition does this quite well. You setup and mix all your various tracks and then you go into the surround encoder and you can animate each track in their placement in 2d space across the duration of your project. Made a badass 5.1 sound effect/music track for my mad scientist themed halloween party. Cool!
