Hi everyone,

here an question form an abolute Noob but i hope you can help me.

Since 6 months i am the lucky owner of a mediaplayer namely the Mediagate MG450-HD ( http://www.airlinktek.com/english/product.php?prod=mg450hd ). And i have to admit it's your moneys worth and it does the job just fine . Plays vob files, divx, xvid, avi even iso movies are no problem at all. EXCEPT HD is a problem.

The mediaplayer does not play mkv containers. But it will play wmvhd files and i was blown away off the quality after viewing an sample file from Ms like Coral_Reef_Adventure_720.wmv.
After that experience i was sure, i just had to play HD content.

as you can see only the wmv9 codec is supported (http://www.airlinktek.com/english/atboard_view.php?class1=cs&class2=faq&page=1&notice=y&kind=&uid=2361).
after reading through all the forums here and at Airlinktek and trying all the programs to recode an mkv to wmv i finaly gave up, it just takes too long to recode a 16gb mkv to wmv.
unfortunately all other wmv_hd i came accross come with the VC-1 codec which isn't compatible with my mediaplayer.

And that is where my question is about .

Is there a way to (re)mux a wmv container with a VC-1 codec to a wmv3 (wmv9) codec .If i'm not mistaken muxing will be much faster than encoding !
i also found in this forum that 9 out off 10 times changing the FourCC code from vc-1 tot wmv3 will work just fine but i can't find a prog to do this with (The FourCC changer will only accept avi's and no wmv as source file)

thnx in advance

:thanks:

with kind regards

Rollins

You can use a custom fourcc with SolveigMM ASF Multiplexer (there is a free version if you search around), but it won't work for playback. And if it won't play on the PC there is no way it will play on a media player. My understanding is that WVC1 and WMV3 are too different., you have to re-encode or get a better media player (HTPC or TVIX, some TVIX players support .mkv)

Muxing is changing the container of the video. However, you already are using the ASF container (.wmv). You need to change the codec, therefore you must re-encode.
