Hello everybody,

As some of you might know, I'm using Avisynth to improve my digitised 8mm film clips. I tought it was a good idea to show you all some example clips in good quality.

Here's one:
http://www.vimeo.com/1644000

At the right bottom of the page you can download the Mpeg4AVI clip, this clip should play fine in full screen.

I have used MVFowfps(), MVDegrainMulti() and LimitedSharpenFaster() on this one. Stabilizing was done with DePanStabilize() of cource.

The "trick" with Depan is: one can use a modified clip for DepanEstimate(). I have noticed Depan is working very good with a binarized and inverted clip, in B/W. Cropping often helps a lot, too.

Please have a look at my other clips, too. All clips are created with Avisynth.

Please keep in mind: on some Windows systems, Mpeg4 levels are wrong scaled. To check this, please load the clips in VirtualDub. You player should show you the same colors and contrast. If not, ffdshow is what you need. :)

I would be very happy with your comments, because this is a very good way to learn from each other.

Fred.

Thank you for sharing these Fred - they are stunning.

The mvflowfps artefacts, which are certainly present, are not too distracting when watching at normal playback speed. The smooth versions are more pleasing to my eye than the "original" fps.

I don't know if it's the difficulty of capturing the wide dynamic range of film, but some of the clips look a little dark (I checked in VirtualDub - identical) - would a little gamma correction help?

Anyway, the clarity and sharpness is amazing!

Cheers,
David.

Thank you for the feedback, David!

Yes, some clips are maybe a bit on the dark side. As you say, this is a gamma matter but this is easy to fix. This is a matter of personal taste too. I have tried to make them play in good quality on all kinds of systems and monitors (witch is impossible  )

And yes, the MVFlowFPS artefacts are there, but much less then in previous versions of MVTools. In fact, MVFlowFPS is getting better and better.
