I try to compare with the same resolution ( 352x288 ) with vbr encoding ( Tmpg 500min/average 1150/max2000) the same video encoded with mpeg1 and mpeg2

I found mpeg2 is a bit better than mpeg1
I search for this info to make movie that can fit on a single cd

are you thinking like me ?

Personally, I would prefer splitting the movie and go for a 2-SVCD rip...

But since you want to go for a single CD only, you might want to have a look at the method that Antonio S. describes in http://forum.doom9.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7291 - to me, it sounds like a reasonable way to get the max quality for 1-CD rips. That is, if your DVD-Player is able to play it, since it is way off any standard...
