View Full Version : AutoMKV - Either I get no audio, or the program freezes

Poof

When i try to encode my VOB's through autoMKV, I can either select "copy original" which caused my mkv to not have an audio track even though it says "80: AC3 2/3 448" under audio track one, or if i select any other option it will freeze upon starting where it says at the bottom of the program screen "normalizing audio plz wait". Ive tried disabling normalizing audio, but every time i click off the box and press ok, i go back and its back on, and it never goes away.

So seeing as there probably isnt an immediate solution to autoMKV's audio bug, how do i demux my VOB and remux the resulting AC3 audio with my MKV video?

you probably have just to wait... normalizing will take time.

@Poof

post the log, could help

and .. the normalizing could take from 5 to 20 minutes ... differs from cpu specs and audio lenght

@Poof

Hi!When i try to encode my VOB's through autoMKV

In light of the problems your having, in addition to the suggestions already made, just to eliminate other possible causes, may I ask does "my VOBs" refer to a DVD that you've ripped to your hard drive?

If your source is a DVD that you've ripped to your hard drive, the previous suggestions will probably solve your dilemma. If your source is something else, there could be a virtually unlimited number of reasons for the problem...

Its VOB's ripped from a dvd.

How will i know if the normalizing is still working or if it has frozen? Because the dialogue box doesnt change while its normalizing, i dont know if thats normal or not.

Sharktooth

just wait... if after 15/20 minutes there are no signs of life then it's probably frozen.

Well, i figured out that i couldnt hear the audio because of the AC3 decoder on my computer, but i got the AC3 stream out of my file and remuxed with avi-mux, which everything plays great!...except...well, my once progressive film now has become interlaced in the encoding process. AutoMKV recognized it as progressive but it now plays with interlacing jaggies. What gives? Is this just the way x264 looks (on a computer screen)?

Poof
6th September 2008, 07:01
I ran the source VOB through the 'test deint' function and got this:

interlaced 0%
progressive 100%
telecined 0%

Then I encoded it to x264 MKV using the constant quality preset and tested it and got this:
interlaced 6.21%
progressive 82.61%
telecined 11.18%

what gives, why did it interlace my video, or better yet, how do i prevent it from doing so?

buzzqw
6th September 2008, 17:30
test deint isn't currently update as normal deint routines

... wait a new update

anyway.. yor video will be telecined (IIRC)

@PoofWhen i try to encode my VOB's through autoMKV, I can either select "copy original" which caused my mkv to not have an audio track even though it says "80: AC3 2/3 448" under audio track oneI'm beginning to wonder if you've created a good "rip" of your original DVD.

1) What is the Title and Region number of your original DVD?

2) What software and procedures did you use to rip it?

Poof
6th September 2008, 18:02
oh, ive gotten audio to work fine, its the video thats really messing with me.

The initial dialogue upon import says my individual VOB's are BFF, but then i joined them using VOBMERGE and now it tells me my joined VOB is TFF. I sent the same individual VOB into RESTREAM and it tells me its 29.97 (TFF!) but then i import that same VOB into virtual DUB mod and it tells me its 23.97 (no field order info). So i have multiple programs telling me different field orders and frame rates for the same files. Which one am i supposed to believe?

anyway.. yor video will be telecined (IIRC)

So, it will telecine a progressive source no matter what i set it at? And theres no way to disable that?

Would you please be good enough to answer my two questions?

) What is the Title and Region number of your original DVD?

2) What software and procedures did you use to rip it?

Poof

Its called Spirited Away, its anime. The region is NTSC, dont know what the number is, whatever one is assigned to USA.

I used dvd decrypter, IFO mode, stream selection, and only ripped the english audio track and the video. I got 6 VOB's, and joined them using VOBMERGE, then i loaded the VOB into autoMKV and this should tell you the rest:

As you can see i first tried it with AUTO for the deint and field order functions and it gave me telecined video. Ive also tried it by disabling the deint function and that didnt work. So now i have left to set it either at progressive or film, which the initial dialogue box is telling me that my frame type is progressive, but the video type is film, so i dont know what to do. Am i wrong is not wanting this to be telecined? because i would like this for backup so i can burn it to a regular DVD (source is DVD-DL) but i also want it to look nice on a computer screen.

I used dvd decrypter, IFO mode, stream selection, and only ripped the english audio track and the video. I got 6 VOB's, and joined them using VOBMERGEInstead, simply set DVD Decrypter's "Filesplitting" (Tools>>Settings>>IFO>>Filesplitting) to "None"...

**EDIT** This 2003 Disney Release MAY contain the earliest version of RipGuard copy protection - in which case, DVD Decrypter would APPEAR to "rip" it properly, but in actuality, the rip would be problematic. If this proves to be the case, RE-rip your DVD using either "RipIt4Me" or "DVDFab HD Decrypter" (Don't be misled by the "HD" in the name, it processes "standard" DVDs as well)

oh, ok, i will do that for next time, but that doesnt answer my question about the telecining and interlacing.

Initially getting a PROPER "rip" could very well eliminate any anomalies you're experiencing...

I re-ripped it with dvdfab and all my problems went away. Thanks for the advice, i had no idea a dvd could be still be ripped with the copy protection on it, or that doing so could cause so many problems.

EDIT: I tried AUTO, and the frames were identical, I tried progressive and the frames were identical, then i did film and it screwed everything up (instead of a 3/3/3/3 frame pattern (the frame movement pattern for a character), it changed its motion to 2/2/3/2/3/3/2 or something strange like that). I guess ill just stick with whatever the frame type is.
