Hi,

I have a 480p widescreen (16:9 853x480) video captured at 720x480p. Wanted to know the correct method to come up with the correct mod16 resize for the width.

For example after cropping with another game (that was anamorphic), it works out to 638x448 = 796x448 (was giving that number by another member - but not sure how he came to it)

This other video is not anamorphic, but after cropping the visible pixels from 720x480 comes to 700x476. Could anyone tell me what the method is to determine the correct number to restore the widescreen width? Thanks

It sounds like he simply resized it to 16:9 -- 796x448 is about 16:9. It depends on how your video is set up... If your video was source say, 1920x1080 then downsized to 704x470 for DVD ( ~ 1.5 ) and had borders added to change to 720x480, then you would crop down to 704x470 and resize up to 470 * 16 / 9 = 832 (mod16)

So it is Height * 16 / 9 = Width? Thanks. :)

Only problem with that is in this case, 700x476 is not mod16 for the height and you have to crop a lot of extra for the next mod16 number. Might be better to resize to 852x480 first and then crop to visible pixels after.

This is quite helpful for understanding some of the math
http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Aspect_ratios

If you want a clean edge: crop, resize, add borders. - slight AR error
Fuzzy edge: resize, crop

ps you might want to check out ZoomBox (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1111789#post1111789), I got tired of doing the math in my head so I wrote a script to take care of it for me.
