Photoshop question: How to create a masked image?

Hello,

I'd like to use Overlay() in Avisynth to add an masked image on top of my video, but since I don't know how I can do that, I need some help.

stickboy used the following picture as an example (http://avisynth.org/stickboy/etc/logo-example.zip) to explain some Avisynth functions.

I do have Photoshop myself, but can anyone explain to me how I can create something simular?
