View Full Version : Can't deinterlace or IVTC this source (might be PAL->NTSC)

Well the source is the r1 of "Terry Jones's Barbarians". Since it was produced for the BBC, I figured it might have been converted from PAL video.
But I've tried mrestore's mode for reversing that, as well as plain ol' IVTC (with tivtc) and have had no luck in eliminating all the combs.
Sample here:

Thanks.

Are you saying that when you play your original R1 DVD, on either your computer or an R1 (or all region) standalone DVD player, you see combing?

Well, I'm trying to make a dvd backup. Should have mentioned that.

I don't mean to harp but, please state:
When you play your original DVD, do you see combing?
Or does the combing only exhibit itself in the .M2V file that you've extracted from your original DVD?
***EDIT***I just viewed your sample and perhaps my old eyes are failing but, I don't discern any combing...

No, I don't see any combing when playing it in my standalone player, but I do see some when played with my PC, unless I have deinterlacing enabled in which case I see "ghosting" from the blended fields.
Tried playing it with mplayer, vlc, and virtualdubmod and got all the same result, for both the m2v and the dvd itself. Maybe you have deinterlacing turned on somewhere in your player?

Well, I'm trying to make a dvd backup. Should have mentioned that. Just keep it interlaced as it is then.

:script:
I'm no expert, but maybe you should attempt to deblend your source before ITVC or frame-rate restoration. Those blended fields are almost certainly throwing off your scripts.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. Any advice on deblending it?
Also my final goal is either an xvid or a x264 file... preferably without combs. Is this possible? I'm not familar with rePAL or and such, if anyone is and can't find settings that work, that would be great.

RePAL does a decent job unblending it. The sample is BFF but I don't know about the entire film. Probably not.
Yadif(Mode=1,Order=0)
RePAL()

I would also try:
TomsMoComp(1,5,0)
or
AssumeTFF.Telecide(blend=false)
Should severely reduce residual combing ;)
