View Full Version : Forcing Root Menu and Title Menu to Behave the Same

I use PGCEdit to do simple stuff like skipping ads, setting aspect ratios, going directly to the menu, and reducing the overall size for backup to single layer discs. If this issue has been covered somewhere else, please point me in that direction.

When playing the original DVD:
It allows skipping to the main menu when I press Root Menu (Play / Chapters / Setup) during the main movie. However, it does not allow skipping (PUO?) to the main menu when I press Title Menu (during the main movie).

After Decrypting:
After decrypting with DVD Fab Decrypter, it will allow me to press Title Menu (PUO removed?), but the navigation behaves as if I have just inserted the disc for the first time. It goes through every ad and preview and warning, etc., and then finally plays the intro to the main menu....

Is there a simple way that I can cause Root Menu and Title Menu to go to the same menu when pressed during the movie? [If all else fails, I can kill every PGC before the menu, but at that point it plays the full intro to the menu.]

[This is a Disney Fast Play DVD, if that matters.]

Yes, change the nav in the title menu to:

1 (JumpSS) Jump to VTSM X, Root menu (TTN 1) where x is the VTS which contains your menu.

Blutach,

Thanks so much for your helpful advice that instantly fixed my problem.

It seems that, since this DVD wasn't developed with the intent of going back to the Title Menu during playback of VTS2, the disc behaves as if it is on a first-time play -- If I hit Title Menu during the main movie, the navigation will now go back to the main menu. Perfect! But if I hit play (on the menu), it starts at the very beginning (rather than the way the root menu picks up where I left off).

Since this is a DVD that my kids will watch only occasionally, it's probably not worth getting in any deeper. But if I wanted to try to learn more about this, what should I do? Track the changes in the GPRM's both through the Title Menu and the Root Menu?

Thanks!!

Yeah, I hate that, too. The easy way to avoid it is to remove the title menu as a named menu. Then, if you accidentally press title menu/top menu on your remote, nothing happens.

Position the cursor on title menu, right click, set menu type, none. Save and test.

Remember to look for calls to the title menu after doing this and change them to calls to the appropriate VMGM PGC.

Thanks, Blutach!

I didn't even know that PGCEdit had a function to change the menu type, but this got the navigation to do exactly what I wanted it to do. I've tested the resulting DVD as many ways as I can think of and it works under any circumstances. In fact, I backed up another DVD by the same studio that had the same issue.

Thanks for being so generous with your time and knowledge when newbies like me are completely lost.
