Well, ATi does offer that Avivo Encoder. It supports ASP and a bunch other codecs, but the quality is nowhere near the "standard" encoders.

Earlier versions of this software do not have hardware encoding, but have been locked for exclusive use with the ATI X1000 series of GPUs.
Auch hardwarebeschleunigtes encodieren ist unter Verwendung des Betriebssystems Microsoft Windows XP und der ATI-Radeon-X1-Serie möglich.

This information seems to be contradictory :confused:

One statement says that you need an ATI-Radeon-X1 card to use AVIVO, but it doesn't actually use the GPU to do it's work.
The other statement claims that AVIVO does use "hardware acceleration" on ATI-Radeon-X1 cards under Windows XP ...

Any information about AVIVO on Radeon HD 4850/4870 cards? From what I read, those cards are MUCH more powerful than ATI's previous ones...
