View Full Version : Intermittent keyboard problems (with rapid beeping)

I'm having keyboard problems on an ASUS CUSL2-C (i815EP).

Every now and then the keyboard would stop responding and the computer would start beeping rapidly, both on POST ("Keyboard error") and during active use. The problem may disappear a few minutes later (or more), and the keyboard returns to normal; I can continue using the OS like nothing's happened.

This happened with two good keyboards.

Searching on the web I found a few references to a blown fuse, but since it happened intermittently here, can this be the cause?

In the last few days it's always keyboard error on startup, with the rapid beeping, and without me pressing anything. This does seem more like it could be a fuse, but would the computer beep rapidly in this case?

Sounds to me like a key is stuck.

This happend to me before, my keyboard got a beer by accident.....

Never heard about a fuse before so can't help you there.

Goodluck.

I had something similar happen while using a KVM switch. Keystrokes would actually hang, and if it happened when I was rebooting one or the other computer it would halt with a keyboard error.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's not a stuck key, and there's no KVM switch or anything else between the keyboard and the computer.

First time I ever have this. I think the only option left is to buy a USB keyboard and hope there's no need to enable it in the BIOS.

The only reason you'd need to enable it in BIOS is if you need to enter BIOS using the USB keyboard. With USB Legacy support disabled it will only work with the OS booted.

Most BIOS's will init a USB keyboard at startup, so you can still enter the bios with a USB keyboard but with Legacy support off things like the Windows F8 menu won't work.......

No other choice, so I got a USB keyboard. It works. The BIOS support for that was set to "Auto", so I don't know if it's required or not. I'm not going to test it. :)

It's my first computer ever with a USB keyboard and PS/2 mouse. No point in USB keyboards normally.
