View Full Version : HD-DVD Playback on CyberLink PowerDVD

I bought an LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Disc & HD DVD-ROM drive yesterday for my computer running Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit). It came with CyberLink PowerDVD Ultra 7.3, which according to my research should be able to play HD-DVD's. However, I have had no luck playing The Bourne Ultimatum.

When attempting to watch it, I'll select the drive as the source, only to have it revert back to File Mode after a few seconds. This happens when the program is loaded on my Samsung SyncMaster 930B with the AACS protection removed by AnyDVD, or when I'm playing it on my Vizio HDTV, which is HDCP-compatible.

My question is, are there any patches I can download or alternative software that will work better? PowerDVD is absolute crap. I'm just trying to watch an HD-DVD...

From what I understand, the latest version of PowerDVD does not support HD-DVD.

It should work! I am watching an HD-DVD right now using 32 bit Vista and CyberLink PowerDVD 7.3 ultra. Works great for both BD and HD.

.......It's PDVD 8 that doesn't do HD.

If you have fiddled around with your PowerDVD install then you can experience what the OP is describing.

The only solution I found for fixing this problem when I've caused it on my own system is by doing an uninstall and then reinstall of PowerDVD.

I have tried using it without updating to version 8, but still run into this issue.

I've reinstalled it several times, to no avail. Also, what is the OP?

I've played several HD-DVDs on my OEM PowerDVD that came with the Combo drive, that being said, I've also ran into a few that would not play on it. Beowulf refused to play at all, I'm set up about the same as you hdcp, anydvd, just no go on that one disk. Serenity, Van Helsing and several other HD-DVDs played without a hitch.
