Ive spent the whole day and most of the night trying to get something to work....

Im trying to copy a dvd to a dvd-r, but so far ive had no sucess.

Ive ripped the files to the hard drive and they are ok.

I then have deleted the vob files that werent anything to do with the main movie - no problem..

Then i carefully follow the guide on using IFOEDIT and i either get a movie with invalid entries in the IFO files, or really bad stuttering on playback - or both.

I thought the way to go might be to somehow convert the vob files in to a mpeg that i could import in to a authoring program, but although i have managed to use vstrip to get the video and audio i cant find anything to put them back together again.

If i try and use Spruce it says that the video file is damaged - but it plays fine with PowerDVD.

If i try DVD Wise it wont see it either - however if i use MPG2MPG to output a video stream DVD wise will see that - nothing else will though (sigh).

I also seem to have a problem outputing the audio in the right sample rate - i dont know if im choosing th right options from vstrip but im following the guides carefully.

Is there anyone out there that could come up with a solution??

What movie are you trying to rip and what is the size of the movie? Have you looked at Derrow's guides? http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/index.html

Please give more detail and maybe use a more descriptive subject next time.

You are making things to complicated by trying to reauthor the disc. If you want just the main movie then you need to use Smartripper and do a movie only rip (or you can do a full backup rip). Copy the files for the main movie (usually there will be 3 or more consecutive 1gb VOB files all numbered sequentialy like VTS_01_1.VOB - VTS_01_4.VOB or maybe it's VTS_02_1.VOB - VTS_02_5.VOB)

**********EXAMPLE**********************

01/17/2002 06:14 AM <DIR> .
01/17/2002 06:14 AM <DIR> ..
01/14/2002 06:23 AM 12,288 VIDEO_TS.BUP
01/14/2002 06:23 AM 12,288 VIDEO_TS.IFO
01/11/2002 11:11 PM 8,192 VIDEO_TS.VOB
01/17/2002 06:14 AM 0 vob.txt
01/14/2002 06:22 AM 51,200 VTS_01_0.BUP
01/14/2002 06:22 AM 51,200 VTS_01_0.IFO
01/11/2002 11:12 PM 24,545,280 VTS_01_0.VOB
01/11/2002 11:26 PM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_1.VOB
01/11/2002 11:37 PM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_2.VOB
01/11/2002 11:50 PM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_3.VOB
01/12/2002 12:03 AM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_4.VOB
01/12/2002 12:03 AM 69,785,600 VTS_01_5.VOB

**********EXAMPLE**********************

Here you would need to copy VTS_01_1.VOB - VTS_01_5.VOB and VTS_01_0.IFO (you do not need to copy VTS_01_0.VOB this is usually part of the menu and when doing a movie only rip it's hard to get the menu to work so just leave it off for now) Put these files in a folder called VIDEO_TS. Start up IFO EDIT (get the newest version that you can see the link above for the site). Select Open and open the file VTS_01_0.IFO. Select VOB Extras. Uncheck everything except "Correct VOB-Unit (Navagation Pack) pointers in VOB Files", "Remove P=UOps", "Correct IFO tables with new VOB-Unit Information", "Create VIDEO_TS.IFO & VTS_01_0.IFO" Do not change the destination directory and click OK. This will take a few minutes. Once this is done Open VTS_01_0.IFO and click "Get VTS Sectors" click save then open VIDEO_TS.IFO and click "Get VTS Sectors" click save(this part may be redundent, if you get he message "No sector's found that are different" then it was but make sure you do both files anway.

This is outlined better in Derrow's guide

You should now have a working dvd structure to burn if you did it right (and providing that it's less than 4.3 gb).

If you still have problems then please give us more detail as to which Movie it is (in case someone else is having similar issues) and what you have tried.

Sorry i wasnt more descriptive but ive been up 24 hours now trying to work this out and im punchy.

The Movie is Cats and Dogs.

I've followed the proccedure you mentioned more times than i care to remember but with no luck.

The best i can come up with is a jerky movie with sound that stutters. The original VOB files ripped to hard disk are fine, but as soon as i use IFOEDIT to do its thing they somehow start playing funny.

Ive tried every variation turning options off, using a different decoder, making one big vob file - god all to many different things...

Im having a similar problem with Peter Pan too.

To be honest i seem to be getting further with using Smart rip to demux the video and audio files and bringing them in to Spruceup - although i only have the trial version and cant hear the AC3. I have DVD movie factory but that only excepts the video and audio in one file - i feel if i could just find something that will remux the two together again and get it in to Movie Factory i could be there.

Thank you for taking the time to write - and i appologise again for my lack of communication - ive been to so many forums, and got so many bits of software in a vain attempt to sort this out....

I need sleep!!

Unfortunantly I don't have access to either of those dvds. Could you please post a file listing for one of the discs? The only thing I can think of is that he discs might be multiangle but that still doesn't explain your problems. When using IFO edit are you using the "Get VTS Sectors" option? This would explain alot if you aren't. Give me a list of all of the files on the disc and then a list of the files you are copying to the disc.
