View Full Version : Trouble Burning on Two Burners

Howdy yall
I run a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 mobo with a q6600 quad processor.
I have two burners, a Pioneer DVR-212 and a LG GGC-H20L (Blu-Ray Combo Drive), both connected through Sata.
I am trying to burn two discs at the same time, the Used Read Buffer reads 100% but the buffer level of the actual burners fluxuates dramatically, hopping around between 10% and 50%.
Its supposed to take 8 minutes, but ends up taking about 45. I don't have any trouble burning to either drive when I'm burning one disc only, even when burning at top speed (16x) so I don't think it is the read speed from the hard drive (320gb seagate, also connected through Sata)
I'v tried swapping them round to different sata ports to the same result.
I'm using Nero 7.
Any Ideas ?

Maybe Nero isn't suitable. I guess you're using two instances of the software? Did you try using something else?

Hi!
If I remember correctly, it's not a good idea to have two burners on one connection, as the best position for each is "Primary"...

They are SATA. There is no Master/Slave.

What ports do you have the drives and the hard drive connected to?
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2741&ProductName=GA-EP35-DS3
SATAII0, SATAII1, SATAII4, SATAII5 or GSATAII0, GSATAII1? The South Bridge ones *might* be better.
Are you burning from a single hard drive? If so, please consider its fragmentation (if it is fragmented).

They are already on the Sth Bridge. But I have tried them with them both connected to the ICH9 (the purple ports) as well, as well as one on each. The most frustrating thing thou, is that I have had it working in the past. I reinstalled Windows 2000 (for shiz and giggles) and they were burning fine. Then after a while I reinstalled XP cause much as love 2000 too mant things just don't work with it anymore. Anyhoo, I installed XP and a few days ago I burnt two DVD at same time just dandy, but today I can't burn too DVDs at only 4x. This particularly hurt cause I was burning dual layer discs too, and more so than that they are expensive, they are a pain in the arse to get a hold of in the 1st place.
So anyway, the fact that they do work sometimes make me think it must be a software issue. Any ideas ?

If you are using another instance:
If it is a software issue, what about having another user added into User Accounts and using Run As new user's name(available with a right click) for another instance of Nero. For these trials I would use rewritable media.
If you are using "Use multiple recorders", as described here (http://binkie7.my.nero.com/blog/7100376), try updating your Nero software. It might have been some Nero/XP update.

This particularly hurt cause I was burning dual layer discsIf you are now saying that your observation of this problem is based solely on your efforts to use multiple recorders to burn the same datat to two D/L discs simultaneously, be advised that MOST such media has a top burn speed of either 2.4x or 4x (and it's highly recommended that you burn only D/L+R media and only at 2.4x, regardless of maximum burn speed), so that burning this media normally would typically take upwards of 35 minutes.
BTW - It appears to continue to be the case that the only consistently reliable D/L DVD+R blank media is Verbatim...

What I meant is that I was having the same problems as the original post, the buffer level fluxuating wildly even thou the read buffer was full.

Writing faster and using minus is possible. It's all a factor of the media type and the writing drive.
Why do you always reply in blue, BTW?

Are you using two instances of NERO, to burn two DIFFERENT DVDs concurrently?
BTW - Is this the same problematic system you've posted about in the following thread?:

Yes it is, I will never buy a Gigabyte mobo again. I'm sure my troubles are not indicative of the brand in general but I'v never had any probs with 3 ASUS mobos or a ABiT mobo.

I am using two instances of NERO to burn to different discs, each with different files.

Based on the other problems you're having with this system, I don't see any point in speculating any further as to what may be causing the slowdown in your "double burning" procedure...
