Diagonal Interference

I am getting diagonal interference from my analog capture card. I tried removing it with DeFreq but it isn't getting rid of a lot of it. Some of the interference seems to bend and I'm not sure DeFreq can handle that.

That's reminiscent of the interference I've seen when the composite cables weren't properly plugged in all the way...

I just have the coaxial cable plugged into my tuner card. It screws in and is screwed on completely. The interference comes and goes every few seconds, and only happens on a few high stations.

Is it antenna or analog cable?

Analog cable. As I said, it only happens on some channels but it happens on all the TVs in the house.

Consider asking the cable company to send a technician with an amplifier to put on the source :p

I have an amplifier. I've tried it with and without an amp and the problem continues. I've also tried removing ALL the splitters on the line so that it is just my capture card connected and the interference continues. Are there no plugins that will help?

Since it happens everywhere in your house, have you tried asking the cable company for help?

I personally tested a TV plugged directly into the main line that comes into our house and it was still problematic, so I know it is not my wiring. I had someone out yesterday. I'm not a cable tech, so I don't want to tell him how to do his job. He decided it must be a problem with our connectors so he went around chopping off the RF connectors on as many wires as he could find and replaced them all. The problem still occurred and I insisted it was not a problem with my wiring because of the test I performed. Determined it was the signal strength in my house he even installed an amp. He finally gave up and left. Comcast...

DeFreq is helping a bit when the interference settles so that the lines are constant, but the transition is proving quite troublesome. I guess I'll just have wavy lines for a couple frames every few seconds :(

I assume it is a RF connector. I used to have that problem off and on with my analog tuner card on some channels. As my area was prone to lightning related damages, the cable guy got me a lightning protector (may be couple of years later) which went between the tuner card and cable plug. On one side it plugged into RF socket of my card, the other side the cable plugged in. It was a cheap gadget at less than five dollars. Whether it was the lightning protector or some thing else, i did not get the problem again. The gadget reduced signal strength to my card a bit, but did not create any other problem.

Load FFTQuiver plugin and try

Every few seconds? Your house or the main cable line is in the path of a radar installation. Not much you can do about it until comcast installs fiber in your neighborhood.

FFTQuiver is great for moving interference, though.

vcmohan: The F1Quiver seemed to add a lot of ghosting, though I didn't change any of the parameters.

mgh: It is an RF connector, and I started getting a lot of trouble with my TV (channels missing) after a lightning storm. Another two Comcast techs just left after replacing the line from the pole to my house and the interference is gone and the missing channels are back. I'm using DeFreq on the few captures I already took.

foxyshadis: Is interference every few seconds commonly caused by radar installations?

Try

F2Quiver(img,"gvn",77,20)

It should remove most of interference. As with any filter there is always some price to pay.
