DVDDecrypter + AnyDVD - Nothing on DVD?

Hi

Im trying to decrypt The Eye (Danish PAL-version). Usually I can decrypt anything using DVDDecrypter + AnyDVD but two discs Ive got recently don't work for some reason (The Eye, Cleaner, both Danish PAL). They're both distributed by the same company (Scanbox) so Im guessing this has something to do with some new type of protection.

I'm using DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 and AnyDVD 6.4.5.9. As far as I know those are the most updated versions.

When AnyDVD is enabled I get the following view in DVDDecrypter:

I cant see that the movie is actually on the disc.

When I disable AnyDVD I get this view:

I can see the movie on the disc, however when I try to decrypt it I get the following error:

Could anyone please give me any pointers on how to go about solving this?

Try right clicking on Anydvd in your system tray and click on rip to harddisk, no reason to use decryptor with anydvd when Anydvd has that function.

When ripping with AnyDVD I just get a bunch of VOB-files and it takes forever just to rip one disc. DVDDecrypter in IFOMode + AnyDVD gives me m2v+ac3-files a lot quicker.

If you rip in file mode, you can always demux. This is a trivial procedure using PGCDemux or VobEdit, taking about 5 minutes on a standard PC. And you would have the DVD structure intact after the rip. I'd do it that way and you'll avoid the issues withy complex protection schemes.

I can't rip it in file mode since there's some type of protection which does'nt let me rip the disc. I usually get around this with AnyDVD but once AnyDVD is activated I can't see the movie on the disc any more.

I tried ripit4me which gave me a few vob-files which I then tried to demux using PGCDemux, but there are no titles to extract.

I also tried joining the vob-files and then demuxing, didn't work either. The joined vob-file wont play either.

Not sure what to try next.

Hi!

When you tried to use ONLY DVD Decrypter (without AnyDVD), it indicated that the disc contains NO copy protection, but generated the error, "Timeout on Logical Unit".

This means (according to the tech guys at Slysoft) that either the cable connection to the drive is broken/disturbed or the mainboard driver cannot forward the command, or another program is disturbing the communication with the drive, or the drive simply doesn't respond to a DVD Decrypter command.

I'd suggest that you reboot and try to re-rip a DVD (other than the two you've mentioned) that you've previously successfully ripped on this same system - and see if you run into the same problem. If so, try using a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US. If that doesn't remedy your problem then, as I mentioned earlier in this post, check your connections...

Thank you for your long response. I contacted Slysoft myself and they've said that they are looking at the problem. I asked them about what you said and their response was that since I can decrypt other DVDs it most likely doesn't have to do with the drive, as they said "Hardware problems are not selective".

Im very grateful for your suggestion but Slysoft actually found that my problems were due to a problem with AnyDVD itself. They made a patch and it's all working now.

Thank you anyway, I may just have to get a cleaner-disc. My drives work enough to deserve one :)

It doesn't. It still doesn't work in DVDDecrypter by itself. But it does work once AnyDVD is activated. I asked Slysoft to explain why AnyDVD was needed for a DVD that was said to contain no copy protection.

Their response:

"There are no CSS keys on the DVD but there are other things:

Found & removed structural copy protection!
Found & removed invalid cell pieces!
Found & removed 4 potential bad sector protections!

Also, AnyDVD will strip off the other studio junk that you do not want on your copy."

Just to confirm: that disc does have bad sector protection.
And the reason that AnyDVD had problems with it before, was a tiny bug in the AI scanner, a little sloppiness - that I myself shall take all credit for :rolleyes:

I'd say (and I might be mistaken as well ;) ) that DVD Decrypter simply didn't see the protection. After all his attempt to decrypt failed and proves the bad sector protection is there
