View Full Version : DVD authoring using VOBs

I have a collection of 1980s music videos in DVD VOB format. Is there any software that will author using VOBs rather than MPegs?

I have tried MyDVD 3 and it hangs up on most VOB files. Ulead DVD Factory will not recognize VOBs, DVD Wise(trial version) did not seem to allow more than two VOB files to be incorporated into a menu.

It should work with the new "create ifos" function in IfoEdit vers. 0.82beta.

Howto:

1)rename your vob to vts_01_1.vob. if you have several vobs belonging to the same title rename your second vob to vts_01_2.vob and so on..
2)hit the "create ifos" button, open the vts_01_1.vob, ifoedit will create a new video_ts.ifo and a vts_01_0.ifo in the folder of your vob(s)
3) this step might be unnecessary , but it's no mistake to do that:
in the upper window of Ifoedit mark the vts_01_0.ifo, hit the vob extras button, a dialog will open, select "correct vob" unit and "correct ifo" tables(deselect all others), hit ok, the process will start.
4)after this hit get vts sectors, do this again for the video_ts.ifo
5)save both ifo and bup files
6)before burning a test with Power DVD XP is recommended

sorry, I was a little bit too fast with answering, (first read, then post :) ),

so if you want to have a menu, IfoEdit is the wrong choice.

here some programs which support importing vobs:

Spruce up, Roxio videopack 5

but I'm not very familiar with these progs, a known limitation is that they don't handle vobs with dts audio. In this case you have to demux your vobs and reauthor them using scenarist NT or DVDmaestro.
