Dvcpro hd

Hi there -

I'm trying to play a MOV file in HD format but I can't because apparently I'm missing the DVCPRO HD codec. I can play that file on my main PC because I installed the codec once, it's just that I don't remember from where I got it :confused:

So I tried mainconcept's and AVID's but with no avail.

1) Please load the video into GSpot and post a screen capture back here

2) What software and procedures did you use to create the video? I ask because the software you used surely included access to the required codec

Apple has not released the DVCPRO HD codec for general QuickTime users, and especially not PC users. It's a closed-end format that can only be read by the codec included with FCP. Adobe and Apple used to play nice, now ...

Yeah, DVCPRO HD is pretty much a no-go on the PC, unless you're running Avid (as far as I know), or a special software package. Best Bet is to get it on a Mac with Final Cut, and export to Photo JPEG at 100% quality :)

From ffmpeg's changelog:


DV50 AKA DVCPRO50 encoder, decoder, muxer and demuxer

So ffmpeg can *probably* do what you require. :)

FFmpeg does not support DVCPRO HD yet. But I think someone was planning to add it.

Alright, thanks guys for your replies. AVID saved me this time. Altough I downloaded their codec prior to posting the qtx ended up to the system32 folder instead of the QTComponents one. :)

The file that was given to me for encoding is rather small: 1.5 TB. It has been edited with FCP but since I'm using windows I had to install the DVCPRO HD for windows (or DVCPRO 100) v210.

Which DVCPro HD codec was that?

My go-to tool for DVCPROHD decode on Windows has long been Rhozet Carbon, but it'd be nice to have some alternatives for people who don't need a whole $5000 enterprise product.
