Wow, I just had this problem last night.
The problem is that you can't just DL a driver for the chip, you need to go to the manufacturer of the card. My card was based on the SiI 3512 chip, and thats all the BIOS will tell you!
Since the card was nonfunctional without the driver, I couldn't look up the name in the hardware manager.... What saved me was Newegg! I was able to look up my old order from 2 years ago, and I found out that my card is a Rosewill RC-210.
The Rosewill website had all the drivers I needed.

I dunno man, but usually they package the DOS driver into ALL driver downloads, becuase its so small.

if the controller has a BIOS/Boot ROM it does not need any driver under DOS.

@Sharktooth: yes, it has the BIOS inside, but I cannot see the drives connected to it under DOS.

@jeffy
Hi!
A Googlesearch (INCLUDING quotes and "AND"s for "SiI3124" and "DOS" and "driver" and "download" (The letter immediately following "Si" is a capital "EYE" not a lowercase "ELL") yields the following, among other possible resources:
http://www.sci-worx.com/support/supportsearchresults.aspx?pid=27&cid=15&ctid=2&osid=0
http://www.opendrivers.com/freedownload/241343/silicon-image-sii3124-pci-pci-x-to-4-port-sata300-bios-3.36-dos-download.html (Scroll down)

@setarip_old: thank you very much for your efforts. I thought it was SIL (as in Silicon Image ) not SII (as in Silicon Image - http://www.siimage.com - http://www.siimage.com). Unfortunately everything I've done so far has not helped.

@jeffy
Please confirm; did you check the two links I provided?

Yes, I did.
The first link contains BIOS update utilities and Windows drivers, the second link contains the BIOS update utility (for DOS) as well. Unfortunately, I found no drivers for DOS, enabling the real use of the connected devices under DOS.
