odd border during playback

i'm having a very weird issue with xvid playback. what is happening seems to be the top line of pixels is getting swapped with the bottom line and same with for the far left and right vertical lines.

here's a picture that shows what's happening. you really only can see the horizontal lines but at least it shows you what's going on. i accidentally stretched the image so pay no attention to that. but as you can see the bottom line of pixels looks like it matches up perfectly with the top...and during playback it matches with movement also.

i'm running vista 32bit with ffdshow doing all the video decoding.

any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Does this problem occur in VLC?

If not...

In MPC or MPC-HC, take a screenshot of your Filters (right-click playing video > Filters).

Try uninstalling ffdshow and reinstalling a recent build (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941&package_id=199416). Check the "reset all settings" box upon install.

If it does work in VLC, the video itself is encoded that way. Most likely.

it is like that on EVERY xvid i have (1500+). this is a fresh install of vista32 with the latest release of ffdshow. it can't be related to a filter in MPC because it does the exact same thing in mediaportal and windows media player. any other ideas?

Please do as I said... playing it in VLC will find out where the problem lies, and checking the MPC filters will show what DirectShow splitters, decoders, etc. are being used. Not specific to MPC.

VLC does the exact same thing.

i did however get rid of the border by changing from "render video in 2d" to "render video in 3d." and the resizer is defaulted to bilinear. does that make sense?

Try using the bicubic resizer (should be better anyways) and the others. Or just use 2D surfaces.

Otherwise, first of all, I would uninstall AC3Filter, as ffdshow provides an AC3 decoder. But anyways, try installing the Haali Media Splitter. Then, in MPC, View > Options > Playback > Output, and try Haali's Video Renderer, Overlay Mixer, or others if you want.

well, i use ac3filter only because witht he ffdshow one i get frame lag when i playback my hd rips that are encoded via dts. dolby digital is fine but when dts is active about every 5 seconds there's a few frames that skip. i tried tons of things to fix it but no luck. using the ac3filter fixes it.

the other major problem with all this is i'm using mediaportal and since the menus/options are different i'm having trouble trying to fix this there. i only have 2 renderers to choose from in media portal :\
