color distortion on a b/w vhs cap

I recently bought a TV card (that's Hauppauge PVR-150) and I'm a bit dissapointed with the quality from VCR recordings. I use a SCART > S-VIDEO+audio to connect the devices up. TV caps look really nice, but with VHS recs I get this really intense colored "cloud" moving across the picture. Any idea why? And if so, how can I fix it? Don't care about interlaces and whatnot, that can be fixed later. But the cloud cannot, as far as I understand. The movie in the cap, is black and white. Example:

You can fix this very easily after capturing:

If you are processing the video as RGB, just reduce the saturation to zero or select a "make gray scale" option (if it exists).
If you are processing the video in YUV, just reduce U and V to zero.

In each case you will end up with just the B/W:

Thanks for the reply! However, while it solves the mystery for black and white movies I reckon it doesn't do the trick for color movies. Is there any fixes in that case?

Oh - I thought it was just a problem with black and white.

Can you post an example from a color source? For color movies, if you cap the same clip more than once, do you get the problem in the same location on the frame or is it random?

sorry for long delay. been working and golfing too much. hehe. Well changed to secondary scart output solved the whole color problem. But run into a new problem trying to cap a color movie. Check those almost vertical lines in this pic.

is this something that can be removed without using heavy smoothering?

JohnnyMalaria, thanks for the reply. I asked my friend to post this matter for me since I wasn't allowed to post for 5 days.

The issue with the "vertical" (diagonal?) lines was surprisingly easily solved by using virtualdubs own blur filter, one point only. Keeps pic sharp still but removes the lines. No idea where they came from, but there's an easy solution for anyone who would stumble upon them later at some point when dealing with VHS.

Do the diagonal stripes move ("roll") across the screen? If so, it might be some high frequency interference.

Yes, kind of. It looks as if it were raining. But what might those high frequency interferences be caused by? The computer is fairly close to a radiator, might it for that? In either case I guess that should be discussed in another sub-forum than this. Thank you very much for the help.
