No video from clip in any video player

I have 1080p clip that came with a computer magazine in September 2007 and ran fine at that time on vlc and MPC but now only audio comes out.It does run on Mplayer but with audio and video desynch.I have also installed demo of coreavc but it doesn't show in filters in MPC,vlc offers only a black screen.
Here are any details that might be needed .Please help.

Well, do you have ffdshow or some equivalent codec like coreavc, cyberlinks etc that opens H264 video installed? Also the latest versions of mpc hc have built in h264 support provided from ffmpeg code.

Yes,I do have ffdshow and coreavc installed and coreavc opens the H264 and the ffdshow support for h264 was disabled to allow corevc to open the files.

2) There have been other postings, at this and other forums, indicating that some magazine discs contain "unusual" copy protection. Is it possible that this clip was intended to "self-destruct" after a specific number of plays?

You have seen too many mission impossible moviesNope, just very aware of all types of copy protection, both already in use and proposed - including discs that oxidize to uselessness after 48 hours of initial play.

BTW - If anything, I saw all of the original TV episodes of "Mission Impossible" when they were originally aired ;>}

ON TOPIC:
Try to scan the DVD for errors and try to copy the video file to the hard drive as well. Isn't the DVD simply damaged?

I don't think it has any copy protection since the clip is only trailers for movies that are going to be released in blue ray,and it worked fine in Media player classic and still runs albeit with large audio video desynch on mplayer (the standalone ver from mplayerhq.hu).
I have copied the clip into my hard drive with no problem.Neither the clip on the disc and the one on hdd show any video only audio runs.The disc isn't even scratched.
