Hi folks,
Been recording for abit using flask pak, my newest challange is encoding in Dolby 5.1. Can anyone suggest a procedure to obtain a final divx/mp3 in 5.1? Currently I'm using Mp3 128 stereo, it just isn't working. I did notice the dolby downmix in the audio section of flask tho I don't see the connection.

2nd question.
My files are starting to get larger then 1 cd. I try to use the break files at x seconds, but instead of making 2 files it keeps making multiple files about 16mb in size, about 20 of them, very annoying.

AMD 1.4 ghtz 256 mb ram 20gb hd.
Current ops win2k updated to current with sp2 and IE6
Flask Rippak .60 w/ dvd decrypter 2.4
DivX 4.01 final
Radium mp3 pak
Ghosted image without anything installed so I dont mind changing my socks.

I'd like to use another tool, one with maybe more stabilty and functionality. I would like to split files for 2 divx, tho I just haven't had any success with anything else. I have budgetted drive space of about 8gigs or so free, max I can get to is 12 gigs free so pure avi seems to be out of the question at the moment. Any suggestions?

Give GordianKnot a try.
Read guides, install it and read guides once again.
You can make divx movies (using divx3 or divx4) with DD5.1 and split it, ecnode credits separately and do everything just using GordianKnot (of course with help of other proggies).

I tried GK once, i read the docs and so on, installed it. Got to the point where I could use it following the detailed doc's.

Tho i got stuck at the point where it wanted to make an avi file. Being I didnt have enough space to record even the smallest movie I gave up.

? can GK go directly to divx, rather then to avi/wave then to divx. If not i guess im gonna start saving up for a 100gb hd..

I thought about using frameserver setup, I have a server and its got an additional 7gb available, if I single partition my main machine's 20gb hd and reghost I can maybe get 16gb to work with for now.

ty for the info, ill go read the doc's s'more.

btw reason for this i just hooked up my dd 5.1 amp (pioneer) with bose cubes powered sub, to my main, god what was i thinking of hooking it up to my tv first. hehe

I don't see a problem. You said that you can get 12GB out of your HDD.
That's enough!
You need between 4-7GB (sometimes more, sometimes less) for ripped DVD, 300MB for .ac3 and between 650-1400MB for the movie (1cd or 2cds, but if you want .ac3 sound stay at 2cds). And some MB for other files. So as you can see, you need aorund 9GB on your hard-drive.
Divx is the codec. You're not doing DVD-AVI-DIVX. All you need is an AVI file as a result of compression (Audio-Video Interleave - AVI) and, during the compression, the movie will be compressed using Divx. Of course, when you install Playa (which is one of the crappiest player I have ever seen) it asks you if you want to rename .avi to .divx - and it's needed just to associate .divx files with Playa.

Ok i think im doing this right, ? is there an app to visually inspect the ac3 file to see if it actually contains the 5.1 streams?

In DVD2AVI I choose auto select for channel format and Demux All Tracks (default) > raw streams inside the program stream, I DID NOT select Dobly Surround Downmix. Does this sound correct to end up with 5.1 in AC3 format?

Ty again for the assist, I think im gonna truely like GK it seems to have all the features that flask did not.

IN most cases the very first audio track on DVD is .ac3 5.1 English. All you have to do is select Track Number - Track 1 (actually you can check in SmartRipper which track is DD5.1, in Stream Processing tab), Chanel Format - Dolby Digital, and Dolby Digital - Demux. You will end-up with DD5.1 track for sure. Of course if DD5.1 track is second or third on DVD, you have to select Track 2 or Track 3 in DVD2AVI.
