Hey guys,

I am proud owner of a Samsung YP-P2 since this morning and would like to put some video material on it in space saving x264 format. Does anyone know the specs for this player? I assume I cannot encode with any setting to be compliant.

Regards

H.264 is not supported in Samsung YP-P2 firmware.

i would be not so proud. YP-P2 is just a good but overpriced mp3 player with some video capabilities, but not h.264/AVC. so forget about HQ videos coz the supported formats relly suck at low bitrates.

H.264 is not supported in Samsung YP-P2 firmware.

YP-P2 supports h.264 from what I've read, where did you get your info from ? Here's what I found (in french, but the description at the top lists the supported formats) : http://fr.shopping.com/xPO-Lecteurs-MP3-et-multimedias-numeriques-Samsung-Yepp-YP-P2

And if it doesn't support MPEG-4 AVC (supposing my source is wrong), it at least supports MPEG-4 ASP since it's actually advertised as supporting "MPEG-4 video" (you know, that generic term they use on every single A/V product but that doesn't mean anything).

If ever it does support h.264, I'd suppose the compatible settings will be similar to those for the iPod or the PSP, so try those first.

it supports only WMV and .SVI (samsung video files, that may contain MPEG-4). The player, does not support AVC.

Hm, I'm afraid you guys are right... I tried both iPod and the iPhone format and none of them worked. What exactly is meant by MPEG4? Would XviD work or which formats are accepted by the player?

whatever the resellers say, the specs are here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/spec/supportSpecSearch.do?group=audiovideo&type=mp3players&subtype=flashmemory&model_nm=YP-P2JAW&dType=D&mType=UM&vType=R&prd_ia_cd=03040200&acc_ia_fl=&disp_nm=YP-P2JAW
full specs: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/spec/supportSpecSearch.do?_site_cd=us&group=audiovideo&group_cd=&type=mp3players&type_cd=&subtype=flashmemory&subtype_cd=&model_nm=YP-P2JAW&dType=D&vType=R&mType=UM&model_cd=YP-P2JAW%2FXAA&fullspec=F&prd_ia_cd=03040200&acc_ia_fl=&disp_nm=YP-P2JAW&menu=&isEqualsY=&sel_model_cd=YP-P2JAW%2FXAA

no h.264//AVC.

It doesn't say it doesn't support H.264/AVC. Just because it doesn't support one of the common containers doesn't mean you can't mux H.264 to SVI ;-;

Something to look into.

it doenst say it supports it. so it doesnt support it.
never take as good what resellers say. official specs are linked above. i cant see h.264/AVC in suppoerted formats.

SVI is actually AVI. But nothing supports h.264 unless it explicitly says so. The YP-P2 supports only MPEG-4 SP (not ASP - no b-frames, no cqms). Xvid will work fine within those restrictions. With the latest firmware you can use AAC audio though, or MP3.
