Where can I get parts for a Philips 642/37? Specifically, I am looking for the optical drive which fits inside the metal case.

Thanks for replying, but I've already checked there. Unfortunately they don't carry anything but cosmetic hardware, the remote and some AV cables.

I might be able to get by with just the laser pickup if anyone knows of a good source.

Yep...I know. One must remember, however, that I am stunningly cheap. I think this might be evidenced by the fact I'm actually trying to repair this unit:rolleyes:

There are several confusing sets of numerals on the device, but no indication of a manufacturer. Some of the motors are labeled "SANKO" but I think that's merely the motor manufacturer.

Bewildering numbers:

05715J1958

And my favorite...mainly because part of its illegible:

On the pickup itself:

3BE275M

I'm wondering if I might be able to disembowel an old DVD ROM I have laying about and use the laser pickup from it.

Already have:D I'm trying to repair this one for a less fortunate friend. They all come to me. Its the talent. :D Or perhaps the free time:rolleyes:
