Anyone know of media tools that work well with a linux based system? Planning to do some experimenting but want to be sure that it stays light and quick

mplayer mencoder and ffmpeg, if it can't be done with these it's probably not worth doing!

So MCBob, fft3dgpu, and MVDegrain aren't worth doing? ;)

AviSynth does work on Linux through WINE, but it sounds like a real headache for workflow...

In all honesty though, the libavcodec based tools are excellent :)

Not what i meant :P

What i meant is those 3 apps cover just about anything you need to do!

Yeah good point shakey, cross platform open source software rocks!!!

I use mencoder for most of my work, but if i need to work on interlaced or badly cropped content then i will use AVIDemux, Terminator 2 Ultimate DVD is a great example, the borders change from scene to scene, particulary the left border.... AVIDemux let's me check the cropping all through the movie before i encode.

Under Wine I have recently used DVLab pro, Tmpgenc and Avisynth. Clunky but workable. Like Blue_Misfit says - workflow is untidy with these.

i'm not entirely looking for tidy, just experimentation ;)
