Do they automatically appear in GraphStudio when ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme is installed ?
Yes.
Should eac3to use these too ?
eac3to only uses its dts decoder when needed; if you don't have a DTS/HD/MA audio and you don't convert it to another format, eac3to will never need that. Decoders only be used while re-encoding.

OK. Where would you scale down from 1080p to 720p (or 1080i) ?

I would leave it at 1080 but if you need some space resize to 720.

I use MeGUI as a front end for x264. You may also want to test this tool for HD DVD muxing.

I was wondering, why do you first Remux the VC1 and AC3 with TSMuxer, only to Demux it again in GraphStudio/MeGUI ?
PS. I wish the Toshiba XD-E500 could play 3xDVD - would have been interesting.

You'll have to wait for rica because I don't understand the logic. I've always used eac3to change the container to mkv and convert the audio to ac3. I then generate an avs script and serve to MeGUI.

Read post 18 & 19...
You can leave it as is if you don't need to remux again; you can directly make an avs which address the just video graph prepared by yourself and open it with megui if you are planning to re-encode it.

Neither am i :)
1) extract vc1 with eac3to and remux to ts/m2ts/BD
1.1) extracting raw media with eac3to:
EVO(VC1) > VC1
EVO(audio) > audio
1.2)remux them to mkv/ts/m2ts/BD with MkvMerge or TSMuxer.
NO PROBLEM.
2) extract vc1 with eac3to and remux to ts for cutting purposes
2.1) extracting raw media with eac3to:
EVO(VC1) > VC1
EVO(audio) > audio
2.2)remux them to ts with TSMuxer.
2.3)cut-demux it with TSMuxer again.
2.4)Re-encode cut raw video with MeGui.
2.5)Remux re-encoded video with cut audio into mkv/ts/m2ts/BD with MkvMerge Gui or TSMuxer.
NO PROBLEM.
3) extracting-remuxing vc1 video into mkv with eac3to and re-encoding directly to h264
3.1) extracting raw media with eac3to:
EVO(VC1) > mkv
EVO(audio) > audio
3.2)re-encode video with MeGui
3.3)Remux re-encoded video with audio into mkv/ts/m2ts/BD with MkvMerge Gui or TSMuxer.
NO PROBLEM.
4) extracting-remuxing vc1 video into mkv with eac3to and remuxing to mkv/ts/m2ts/BD
4.1) extracting raw media with eac3to:
EVO(VC1) > mkv
EVO(audio) > audio
4.2)Remux them to ts/m2ts/BD with TSMuxer.
PROBLEM!!!!
5) extracting-remuxing vc1 video into mkv with eac3to and remuxing to ts for cutting purposes
5.1) extracting raw media with eac3to:
EVO(VC1) > mkv
EVO(audio) > audio
5.2)Remux them to ts with TSMuxer.
5.3)cut-demux it with TSMuxer again.
5.4)Re-encode cut raw video with MeGui.
5.5)Remux re-encoded video with cut audio into ts/m2ts/BD with MkvMerge Gui or TSMuxer.
PROBLEM!!!!
BTW i don't know the final stage concerning with MF since i don't have it and its HD pluin.

Lets finalize the issue:
1) If you have a premade mkv-vc1 (including remuxed mkv by eac3to) the best way is to use graph (or mkvextract) to extract VC1.
My choice is graph:
Haali Splitter > Dump
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1467/dumptovc1oc0.th.png (http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dumptovc1oc0.png)
2) If you are creating a new mkv-vc1 from a BD/HD DVD rip, forget using to extract/remux to mkv directly with eac3to or haali multiplexer, just extract vc1 directly with eacto/TSMuxer/Graph,
remux with TS muxer into ts for further processing
and you can use any technics as you wish; graph for converting to mkv, TSMuxer for converting to m2ts/BD...
Since TSMuxer has a bug with mkv-vc1s and if you wish to make further processing, follow the instructions above...

WellSonofa....... I tried watching my freshly burned HD DVD last night. It was a stuttering mess. When I tested it the other night I just watched like 5 seconds and thought it was good. So we watched the stuttering for a few minutes and then the sound went in and out and then ended up off sync. It was fine in the begining. So I went back to the drawing board. There is no stutter in the file until I put it into H264info and add 3:2 pulldown to change to 29.97 Any ideas?
I have no idea what is up with the sound. And no idea how to fix it.
I have a rip of a HD DVD that I have been trying to put onto two DVD9's with zero luck. It is an MKV with H264 and AC3 audio. I got it all the way to a .ts that MF6+ will accept and used tssplitter to split it then I got it through MF6 and onto the first disk. It is a stuttery mess that drops audio and gets way off sync too. I used the same process I used on the first attempt so I am for sure thinking I have no freaking idea WTF I am doing. LOL and I was so sure I was over the hump I scored a A3 for a second player in another room. DOH.

Hello everybody
I am trying to follow these instructions, but I am not enjoying much success at all in getting MF6+ with HD pack to mux h264 streams without re-encoding to MPEG2. Also, when I try to define new disc templates many of the options are greyed out, in particular size (fixed on a 1080 format) and the video format is fixed MPEG-2. How's that? Can anybody advice? Am I missing some codecs? Did something go wrong with the installation?
Thx
PS. I forgot to mention that when I try to load a TS containing h264, I get the message: "[filename] is not accessible". After install QT I managed the make it accept h264 inside a .mov container, but when I burned the HDDVD it was converted to mpeg2video. (Not a suprise, because that is what the disc template said: point is, why can't I change the disc template to some AVC video format?)

After that when I remux with tsMuxeR I get the stuttery playback of the .ts which of course doenst play right in my A2. Any other ways to change the framerate from 23.996 to 29.97? Well I finally made a good HD DVD last night. I ended up using MeGUI to convert the file and add the borders into a mkv file. I selected the standalone-HD-DVD profile instead of the SA-HD-DVD profile then followed with MKVExtract to extract the H264 file. I then used H264info to add pulldown. tsMuxeR to mux back in the audio then MF6+ w/HD powerpack to create the HD DVD folders and the burned in Nero7 with xbox compatibility. I guess the profile change in MeGUI made the difference. Not sure why, but it worked. I am going to make another movie tonight as MeGUI is cranking away on another mkv as we speak. The Q6600 overclocked to 3.2 gHz is really chewing through this stuff.
Mr. Garibaldi I will look into that option. I thought I looked in MEGUI for a way to add the pulldown, but I had not seen it. I will check into that again as it would eliminate one step in my process.

The resulting EVO video and audio syncronization problem is a bit worse than I initially thought - it is progressive, with video running faster than audio.
Strange thing is that the ts file used as input to UMF6+ is in perfect sync, but after UMF6+ the resulting (EVO) VIDEO part is running TOO FAST.
Any ideas ?

Hi,
I'm following this subject with great interest and try to follow the steps, but no luck so far.
Sorry for the long post, but to have good feedback, there seems not another way then describe what I tried so far.
Workflow:
Bluray: John Mayer concert, decrypt with AnyDVD
Using Windows Vista 32 bits SP1 USA Home Premium
1) Convert video into to MKV with eac3to
- Video format is 1080p24
- Audio has multiple tracks, for test I only use the stereo one
2) Convert the 2ch 96/24 PCM audio track into flac
- Convert 24 to 16 bits
- Down convert 96Khz to 48Khz
3) Convert flac file into AC3 192 kbps with eac3to
- Could have done 2+3 in one go, but also want to keep the loss less audio
- Tested both audio files, play OK in Windows Media Player 11
4) Use MeGUI -> x264 to convert to 1080p24 in lower bit rate
- Use Standalone-HD-DVD profile, 8000 kbps average (MeGUI adds automatically nal-hrd, seems ok)
- MeGUI and its files totally updated 0.3.0.2013
- Video converts no problem (takes about 20 hours)
- Format .264 (AVCRAW)
5) To test the video I remux a/v to MKV with mkvmerge and play with MPC-HC
- Plays OK
- Quality is very good for 8000kbps only
6) Video is 24p, so use H264info to add pulldown flags like instructed before.
- Only 2:3 pulldown selected (H264info also selects 'add picture structure' which cannot be unselected)
- H264info is version alfa 0025-lite
>>edit: Selected also 'write PPS every picture' option ->solves most issues
- Nothing else selected in the UI (except of course the input and output file names)
- After a while the pulled down flagged video is finished.
7) Mux AC3 audio + pulled down video to .TS format with Tsmuxer GUI v1.8.4
- Now it becomes less clear what settings to use...
- The program H.264 track default is to select 'add SPS/PPS
' + 'add picture timing info' Keep selected or not?
- TS format or M2TS format? So far I used TS
- Tsmuxer set to split the file after every 4GB to be able to try 4.7G discs (dual layer media is expensive for testing...)
8) Use MovieFactory 6 Pro + HD pack (just bought and installed)
- Select advanced HD-DVD on DVD4.7 (basic format needs 1GB for the menu which doesn't fit on the disk)
- Keep Menu selected
- Add chapters -> automatic chapters every 5 minutes
- Nothing changed on the menu page
- Try the preview in the preview - test screen, works OK although MF6 is quite slow to respond.
- Last page: Burn disk + make ISO image, MF6 goes on and muxes all without re-encoding within a few minutes, then burns the disk. I use DVD-RW not to waist media.
Seems all good, but:
When I mount the ISO image with Alcohol 52% and play with Powerdvd 7.3 (HD-DVD), the menu displays OK, but when I start the main video, it is unwatchable, keeps skipping then freezing then skipping etc. frames like mux timing info is not correct. Playing Windvd 8 HD will display the first few frames of the video and then crashes.
When I try the DVD-RW disk in a Toshiba A1 HD-DVD player, the disk menu and the background moving image that MF6 automatically adds to the menu, are working fine, but as soon as I start the main video, the screen goes blank en then displays an error (8 digit hex code + 'cannot play this disk')
Tried several combinations of SPS/PPS selected and de-selected, but always get the above result.
Tried another video, this time native 1080p30 format(did not use H264info on that one as no pulldown needed), but same result.
Tried to force MF6 to reencode the video, but MF6 uses MPEG-2 on 25Mbps, which is to large to fit on a DVD.
Questions...
- Did I use H264info correctly?
- What settings to use for TSmuxer? SPS/PPS or not?
add picture timing info or not? change FPS? TS or M2TS?
- Any installed filter (Haali / FFMPEG / ....) I have, might break MF6? Noticed MF6 tries to use Haali to open the TS which crashes the MF6 preview playback, so I uninstalled Haali and tried again
>>edit: Haali splitter does break MF6... makes the chapter timing messed up. Reinstalled Haali without ts/m2ts support.
- Anything else I can test to find where it goes wrong?
Any help would be very welcome for sure...

Tried 3 things this morning:
- To skip H264info step and to use the --pulldown 32 option in MeGUI -> x264 as suggested by Mr. Garibaldi in post #74. Indeed gives directly a pulled down 29.97 fps file without the H264info step.
- The suggestion by OSL (thanks for reply!) not to use chapters
But still no luck, so problem is probably not in H264info nor in the chapters.

Seems my A1 doesn't like H.264 and AC3 in one file.
Tried to remux the video with PCM audio 2ch 16b 48k in Tsmuxer instead of AC3. PCM was converted with pcm2tsmu into a format Tsmuxer accepts.
Now there is a new problem that MF6 gives error in the disk creation screen before muxing and stops. Seems to be a bug because the preview plays normally and with sound. When 'Normalize audio' is enabled, MF6 muxes and creates the disk.
Now the disk plays in the Toshiba!
But with audio and video stutter... some more testing is needed
OSL: I also will try your suggestion using XBOX mode for disc creation. Thanks!
Edit:
- H.264 interlaced 1080i60 + AC3 448 kbps also works, but some video stutter with good audio
- PCM cannot get this working beyond stuttering audio / video
- Tried MPEG-2 1080p 12000 kbps + AC3 (re-encode in MF6), this plays smooth but with horrible quality, lots of marcoblocking
- Found this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=128409 but seems abandoned now
>>encode settings seems different from MeGUI Standalone-HD-DVD settings (o.a. minkeyint, maxkeyint)
- Adding chapters in H.264 file does seem to break MF6 muxing (like OSL suggested)

Has anyone had troubles with MeGUI kicking out H264 files with the wrong aspect ratio when selecting standard-HD-DVD profile? Every once in awhile it makes the file with the wrong aspect ratio and MF6 will try to encode it at the end. Does anyone know what would cause this or if there is a way to repair the header on the file so you don't have to start the encode with MeGUI over again? Here is what the file looked like with mediainfo after MeGUI encoded it.

Has anyone had troubles with MeGUI kicking out H264 files with the wrong aspect ratio when selecting standard-HD-DVD profile?
General
...........
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 2.35
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Resolution : 24 bits
......
You can try to use H264info to reset the aspect ratio to 16:9. Above file seems to need 3:2 pulldown to work properly in MF (at last if you want to mux to HD-DVD), can set the aspect ratio in the same H264info pass.
NB: I found the H264.exe -> H264info 0025 -> Tsmuxer 1.8.4 -> MF 6 workflow occasionally corrupts frames while muxing to HD-DVD when the H264 option 'b_adapt=2' is used.
You might want to try if removing this (using the default 1=fast) helps.
A few 'difficult' frames in the beginning of the file also might make MF 6 rejecting the file or force re-encode.

I have tried using h264info to change the aspect ratio with no luck. Just makes the file even more wrong.
