Guys,

need help in deciding which cable be used for best video quality for my LCD monitor.

I hv samsung LG 2496HM with VGA/DVI-D/HDMI. my pioneer dvd player
dv-686 has component out, to get better quality, shd i go with comp->VGA or comp->DVI ??

Is VGA->comp cable is same as comp-> VGA cable ?? is it same for DVI->comp and comp->DVI too ?. I googled but coudnt get clear idea of DVI->comp or comp->DVI.

comp->VGA cable is cheaper compared to other. ANd i would not get any quality benifit from comp->DVI as componet is already analog. And i guess componet does support till 1080p

what do u guys think ??

VGA is basically RGB anyway, probably why it's also cheaper as a converter. Unless you use a DVI converter that also upscales it doesn't seem like it could be any better.

I have a Dell GX745 PC at work with dual 19" widescreens attached to it, the main monitor is VGA the secondary is DVI, and the DVI connected monitor is much clearer than the VGA monitor.

So DVI all the way!

Oh Sorry misread your question! in your case it is going to make no difference either way, so you may aswell just connect your DVD player via RGB, even a upscaling convertor is not going to make much difference

Somewhat related, I have a male VGA to component cable that I've yet to try, but I think is for connecting a VGA output to a component-enabled TV, projector, etc. Yet to try it, but I've been curious as to whether it's feasible to convert SCART RGB to VGA for connecting a monitor to a DVD player, for example, or Component to VGA for the same purpose.

You will need a convertor for that as Scart does not output the required sync signals for a VGA monitor....

you'd be better off just connecting it to a LCD/Plasma that has RGB input.
