View Full Version : Listening to AC3 audio in WinXP

I just finished my first conversion, and could not hear
the (AC3) audio.... I found this filter patch
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Files/Audio/audiofilters.zip
which appears to do the job, but the first time I started
the Media Player, it shut down immediately. The second
time, it shut down with a box offering me to send an error
report to Microsoft. The third time was a charm; I could
watch and see everything, although when I was done and
shut the player down, I again got a box saying there was
a critical error and they wanted to send an error report
to Redmond.

Is this just life in XP, or is there something that can
be done? Ideally, I'd like to use PowerDVD to watch the
file, but then there's the issue of how at full screen,
it doesn't keep its aspect ratio (it fills the entire screen...
I'd love to hear anyone's comments on how to fix this --
Windows Media Player didn't do this)

Thanks in advance!

the wmp is not capable to play ac3 correctly.
you can either use graphedit or, which i would recommend use PowerDivX 3.12 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/pdivx312.zip)
which can handle ac3 correctly.

Excellent advice. Thanks. I will d/l it now.
I'm hoping it allows me to switch between the
TWO ac3 tracks I multiplexed? Cause I could not
figure out how to switch in the Media Player.

thanks!

oooo. PowerDivX is not behaving on my machine
(winXP Pro). I got it to play once, then shut
it down and tried to restart it to see if I
could play it again, and choose another audio
track. Didn't even get that far.

I get one of two problems:

- Just a black screen, no matter how many times I press play.
- An error when the program starts up "Execution error 380,
invalid parameter value" (my uneducated translation from the
French in which the error is displayed)

Anyone have PowerDivX running under XP?

yeah, i am experiencing some problems too with powerdivx under xp...

i just tried Zoomplayer (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/zplay230.exe)
i wasn't sure if it can handle ac3, and yes it can. it has lots of good featues.

Thanks.... downloading zoomplayer right now...

But actually, I've had reasonably good luck
with WMP, as long as I ignore the error reports
I get when I shut it down. However, I cannot
get the 2nd audio track to play just yet -- there
is a program (Morgan Stream Switcher) that lets
you switch audio tracks in WMP, but it didn't
install anything except some Internet shortcuts
on my machine that I can tell. Hmmmm.

To get AC3 audio in WMP, the filter is at:

http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Files/Audio/audiofilters.zip

The (not working in XP????) stream switcher is at:

http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Files/Audio/mmswitch.exe

Keep me posted!

No luck. Zoomplayer's featureset looks pretty
impressive, and my move DOES play WITH ac3 audio
just fine, but I don't see anywhere where I can
switch to the secondary audio track. This suxors. :(
