Hello, I recently moved from using "dr. divx", to finally getting into x264, and although the learning curve is going slowly, i'm finally getting what I want out of it, with a few minor qualms. First to Stax, or anybody else that knows, is there anyway for "staxrip" to autodelete all the "extra" files it creates, when making an mp4/mkv? I've searched and searched and can't find the option, and for all I know, it's probably right in front of my face...like I said, i'm kind of a noob to this codec. I end up with about 10 other files staxrip creates, besides the mp4, and i'm worried I might slip up, and delete an important one in the same folder. I encode alot, and when i've got say 30 original hdtv files in a folder, when the program multiplies that by 10 with excess files, anything can happen.
Here's another problem I would like to figure out, but right now, I have figured out a way around it. I'll start out with an atsc .dvr-ms, then i'll cut that with videoredo, to remove commercials, etc., which in that process I change to a .ts stream, because that's generally what my capture cards always used, before I switched to XP MCE2005. Anyway, anytime I try and import a stream in staxrip directly, whether it has a .ts, or .dvr-ms, extension, or whatever, the length of the stream changes, (caused by DGindex, I think). For some reason, say of I import a 1:00 minute clip into staxrip directly, I may end up with the length saying it's "2:10" or something. And when I try to encode that, it just adds a blank gray screen to the excess, or it will even double part of the original clip to "fill" the extra time it's saying it has. I guess it's related to the "DGindex" portion of the process, because sometimes, when i'll import a video in, DGindex will sometimes just sit there, until I close it, then it loads the video like nothings wrong into stax for me to choose the settings...only thing off is the length.
The only way I could find to get around this is, I create the D2V file manually, using the tool in megui...if I do that, and then import that d2v i created in megui into staxrip, everything is just fine...it's just one extra step I wish I could figure out, but it's not as big a deal, as having to worry about deleting all the extra files.
I'm definitely liking the quality improvement i'm already seeing over the way I encoded using divx, but just need to figure out all the little nuances involved with x264, and your gui(s).
EDIT: K, maybe the length problem I have with directly importing my video streams, could be related to the haaili media splitter installed. I found this on a blog..."(Note, if you have the Haaili Splitter installed, you may have some problems importing mpeg-2 TS files. The only fix I could find was un-installing Haaili splitter)".
