Hi all. I am doing a backup of my daughters DVD, College road trip.
I use DVD Fab Decryptor and DVD shrink. ( just the way I've been used to I guess)
Anyway after the decrypting, I open Shrink and after its analysis it shoes 50% quality.
I normally don't care about all the extras so I open the reauthor tab and I found 4 titles where I expected 2. 1 widescreen and one full screen.
I have an older full screen tv so I was going to only include that title, but two of them are full screen.
The two widescreens are exact in size and the two full screen are slightly different but exact in size to themselves.
Why are there two of each? Can I just pick one of the full screens? Sorry I don't understand this.

Hi!Can I just pick one of the full screens?Try it. It'll only take a few minutes to see if the results are what you need...

Thanks for your reply. Yes, of course the option to try it is there, but I am hoping there is a specific reason they are set up like this. Understanding will help with future run ins to this type situation. I'm more interested in learning the reasons than I am flipping a coin for a favorable result. If no one knows, that will be the next move. :)

There have been no other postings here regarding "College Road Trip".
It's a Disney release and, therefore, likely contains "RipGuard" copy protection...

Sometimes that's all you can do.

Thank you. Well I've already picked up a clue, which is more than I had before. Ripguard, I've never heard that term before. If ripguard works by duplicating a title, then I've not only gotten a clue from the above post, I've actually gotten an answer. :)

The duplicate title is because two formats (Full screen and widescreen) of the movie exist on the same disk. Ripguard is an advanced copy protection system that is defeated by DVDFab HD Decrypter.

No, if you read my original post I said that I expected two titles and I had four. Two widescreen and two full screen.
All of which were seemingly the same. Unless I watch the entire movie, or find the explanation of the duplicates I won't know. :(

The rip isn't a perfectly clean rip. That's why you see more than 2 titles. That can be corrected with PgcEdit.

@DiscCoasterProI expected two titles and I had four. Two widescreen and two full screen.1) Please open the ORIGINAL DVD in Explorer and post back here ALL filenames and filesizes.
2) In addition to widescreen and fulscreen versions, does the DVD offer both "theatrical" and "extended" (or "Director's cut") versions, "Director's commentaries", or alternate beginnings and/or endings? - any of which can lead to "false file indications" from within ripping programs...

Hi, thanks for the reply. I can't ck the original at the moment, my sister in law took it for her kids, but it did show on the box lots of options that you mentioned.
My first thought was that this was the issue, alternate ending or something of the like, but I discounted it when I noticed the file sizes were identical. As soon as I get the dvd back I'll check it though. thank you!

Yesterday through today, you were unwilling to take a few minutes to make a copy - and today, in the midst of several members (myself included) continuing to actively try to provide you with assistance, you don't have the original DVD available. Curious and disappointing, to say the least...

@setarip_old
There is no evidence (yet) that DiscCoasterPro does not own this DVD and, in fact, he says it is coming back to him. There is no law that I know of that prohibits someone from loaning their property to anyone. Unless and until we have established that this DVD is not owned by DiscCoasterPro, I don't think that comments like the above are warranted. If you suspect a breach of R6, please use the Report Post button.

@blutach
Hi!
I've neither said nor suggested anything at all regarding ownership of the DVD or a breach of Rule #6. As you well know from many previous reports, had there been a clear indication of such (there was not), I certainly would have used the "Report Post" button
Rather, I said exactly what I meant - namely, that it is disappointing and curious (to me) that while actively seeking assistance, this member has thusfar not simply tried to make a backup as suggested (by me) and now doesn't have the original DVD and, therefore, cannot presently provide filename and filesize information as requested (by me), for the purpose of further assisting the member...

Well, let's leave it at that then. When he gets his DVD back, he can provide additional info. Any further OT correspondence should be via PM or EM please.

Wow, someone needs a glass of wine. You know, perhaps I assumed this was a standard type of question and it had a standard type answer from people in the know.
The answer I initially got was to try and burn a vob. No elaboration such as, these things are sometimes unexplainable, or this is not something with a solid answer, or whatever. I can accept that. But the short and sweet try to burn a VOB didn't even address my question let alone answer it.
Now, I have MY DVD back from my sister-in-law. I Don't expect or want an answer to my question, I'm posting the explorer list to show you its mine, as I'm sure all the DVDs you all burn are yours.
Thank you blutach for affording me the benefit of the doubt.

As you can see from your screen capture, the DVD actually contains only TWO versions of the movie (VTS03 and VTS05)...

Many DVDs are multi-storied. That is, they have more than one title that shares the same cells (in this case, it would appear that your DVD is multi-storied in both the WS and FS versions). This is often done for "extended editions" vs "theatrical releases" or because one PGC might have different commands and for several other reasons. So, despite what setarip incorrectly says, there may well be 4 (or more) titles where you expected 2 (as explained in post 1).
Also, given its advanced protection, it might be that one of the titles in each VTS is fake. In this case, the log of your ripper might tell you if this is so and which one. If you know not what to do, the easy thing to do is load the ripped project in PgcEdit and start a trace. Run thru the menus to pick the version you want and note which title plays. After that, it's easy to backup using re-author mode of many of the popular transcoding programs.

As I said in my post #10In addition to widescreen and fullscreen versions, does the DVD offer both "theatrical" and "extended" (or "Director's cut") versions, "Director's commentaries", or alternate beginnings and/or endings? - any of which can lead to "false file indications" from within ripping programs...However, in fact, the DVD contains only two COMPLETE versions of the movie data - Widescreen and Fullscreen...

You are confusing VTSs with titles. It is clear that each of the large VTSs has 2 titles (or more) which comprise the main movie (which may have some content that is different).
For example - here is a little DVD shot by me. It has one VTS, with 5 titles all having the same content. One version of the movie, 5 titles. This is undoubtedly the effect being seen by DiscCoasterPro.

This particular DVD has two VTS's, each containing 2 Titles (actually 4, but two are not of the movie).
VTS03 contains Title 1 and Title 2, both pointing to identical data. (Widescreen)
VTS05 contains Title 3 and Title 5, both pointing to identical data. (Fullscreen)
As I said before, the DVD contains only two COMPLETE versions of the movie data - Widescreen and Fullscreen...

And how can you tell that from DCP's screen capture (as per post 17)? You need to look at it with an IFO Editor.

That was the point. The screen capture was useless in determining this. Anyway, let's hope all this help DiscCoasterPro.

@DiscCoasterPro
1) FYI - Each of the four Titles appear to play properly
2) If you want to pursue the "Why" of "Why does it show two Titles each for Widescreen and Fullscreen, you shoud feel free to use a program such as PGCEdit to trace each Title's "roadmap"
