Help with DVD Decrypter please [Archive]

So far I have been happily using DVDShrink. Well, there's one DVD I can't seem to do right, so I decided to try another program.
The problem is that DVDShrink is very user friendly - you can just select whatever you want pretty nicely categorized.
I got this DVD with two versions of Aliens, normal and director's cut. With DVDShrink it's easy - I just selected the movie I wanted, minus all the stuff I don't want (other audio streams, subs and whatever).
DVD Decrypter however, what a mess! I managed to make it display those things I want, but can't seem to force it to copy JUST that. What am I doing wrong?

Hi!

What is your ultimate purpose - Do you want to make a backup DVD (full DVD or "movie only"), or do you want to convert the movie to a compressed format (DivX, Xvid, etc.)?

The ultimate purpose is to copy just the movie BUT without all extra audio streams and subtitles.
For converting I then use MeGUI.

I still like DVDShrink, for the reason's you mentioned, the key to making DVDshrink work with newer DVD's is also using AnyDVD, it handles the decryption side of thing's and to all extent DVDShrink see's the disc as a unprotected disc.

Newer DVDs? I thought there's no evolution around this technology anymore.

What do you mean by using both DVDShrink and AnyDVD? Like both at same time?

It's quite the oposite, while it has not evolved as a entertainment technology, the protection has evolved over the years.

Yes Like both at the same time.... AnyDVD is a DVD Decryptor, that removes the protection on the fly so other applications can work with the disc.

Goto the AnyDVD website and read about it.....

You will find most DVDs can simply be opened in DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background. But there are some which may require you to rip the DVD to the hard drive with the AnyDVD Ripper. Please see this thread to find out more: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=3992

Oh so the idea is to rip it using AnyDVD and then use DVD Shrink to separate only the stuff I want?

No, the idea is to use AnyDVD enabled in the background with DVD Shrink. Only rip the disc using the AnyDVD Ripper if it does not load into DVD Shrink and/or the disc is in that thread I linked to.

DVD Decryptor in IFO mode will do the exact same thing as I suggested in your episodic disk thread. The two versions of the movie will be identified by run-time and can be ripped with two clicks (One selecting the proper PGC, one to start).

Not sure what episodic disk thread you mean, but whatever.

The trouble is that the two clicks ALWAYS result in copying (ripping) of the whole DVD. It was the way I understood it - click on the PGC (it's even automatically highlighted) and click copy. But no. It ALWAYS copied some 7GB worth of data no matter what I did or didn't.

Dude in post number #7 linx05 posted a link to a thread explaining how to use DVD Decryptor on tv show disc's, that thread will cover what you need, if you are going to ask for help atleast read everything provided to you!

For converting I then use MeGUI.Based on your postings, I'd suggest you use (Freeware) DVDFab HD Decrypter (Different than DVD Decrypter and NOT limited to HD - does standard DVDs as well) or the RipIt4me package and select "Movie only"...

I agree - it's a post about movies which AnyDVD finds difficulty with when used in conjunction with DVD Shrink. However, within that post is a recommendation to use AnyDVD Ripper, which is what I think linx05 was getting at.

Yes. The link I posted was just a guide to tell him what movies to use the AnyDVD Ripper with. Other than those, just open up DVD Shrink (with AnyDVD enabled in the background) and do as your heart desires.

Hm, something else now.
Tried this guide http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/136/59/ to copy just audio from a DVD. Based on the info there it should be able to copy the AC3 track. Unfortunately, I end up with .VOB file... and not even just the track I want - obviously it copied all of them, even though I unchecked all but one.

Anyway, the easy way to extract audio (from a decrypted source) is with PGCDemux. Get it here (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/dvdtools.htm).

enabling stream processing alone is not demuxing. It still puts the streams in a .vob container.

Then decrypt in file mode and demux with PgcDemux as above. Stop torturing yourself :)

It's quicker to use DGIndex and create a .d2v file, which will extract the AC3 track(s) at the same time, since you already have the VOB ripped. In fact I find it most effective to rip the wanted track with DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, then just use DGIndex.
