mkv2vob mpeg files - Question

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question or not, but mkv2vob is an encoder GUI, so here goes.

I have converted a number of my Blu-Ray Movies to mkv, then to mpegs using mkv2vob.

The quality appears to be gorgeous on my PS3 and 1080p TV, and MediaInfo shows the file as a 1080p stream.

The question is, is it really streaming at 1080p? I didn't realize that MPEG was able to do that. Is it just a container, like mkv's or vob's, etc?

So far, it's been the best to stream from my computer using the Built-in Media Sharing. I used to use TVersity, but it was always sporadic in it's performance.

If someone could educate me on the MPEG ability to actually display 1080p or if it's blowing smoke at me, I'd appreciate it.

When people talk about an MPEG file, they usually mean a "program stream" as defined by the MPEG2 transport specification. Program streams can include MPEG2 video, which in turn can be 1080P.

In light of the fact that some (short-lived) HD DVDs are 1080p MPEG-2 format...

So, the program streams (mpeg) being created by mkv2vob truely are 1080p.

Interestingly, some of them I've done are transcoded into mpeg that's 1080p, and some are AVC that are in an mpeg container.

Thanks for the information. I just wanted to make sure I was getting the best possible quality out of it.
