this was my first attempt with divx. i encoded jurassic park using gknot (did a 2CD/AC3 rip). when i play it back in media player 6.4, the codec never adjusts the deblocking mode. ie: the picture stays very blocky and the divx smoothing effect never kicks in. did i do something wrong? do i need key frames or something?
if u have no idea what i'm talking about, go to the divx4 help file and its under "decoder / post processing / deblocking"

Probably you have not enough bitrate. Try to lower the resolution

it has a bitrate of 1100. more than enough me thinks. the problem is not that the bitrate is too low, the codec just never adjusts! you know what i mean? on the divx files that i've downloaded, the video always starts out sort of blocky, but when the codec adjusts the blockiness goes away. but the codec never adjusts itself! oh well... i'll just do 3.11a/sbc

if u r at full res ur bitrate is way too low. should be more like 1600+, in general u should try to stay above 0.2-0.25 bits per pixel
(gordianknot tells u this number in the lower part of the window)

Sounds like the overlay doesnt start.
is you resolution devidble by 32?
if not that maybe the case.
try g400divx and see if it helps.
good luck.

Kandor's advice was precious here.
Regarding : 'deblocking' filter in DivX4 . You can activate this in the DivX Decoder Filter ( DivX4 DirectShowFilter ) by setting the 'postprocessing' slider to anything higher than 0. Note this will need additional CPU power. PowerDivX 3.12 player will allow you to set this directly from a DivX4 configuration window, even on playback ... get it from Doom9 download section ....
