SDTV (720x576 PAL) on AVCHD disk?

Hello!

I wonder if the following is possible:
Store PAL Video (SDTV 720x576) on a AVCHD disk.

So my source is either a DVD (VOBs) or MP4 files (H.264 / AAC)
The target should be M2TS files (H.264 / AC3)
And of course I don't want to reencode the H.264 videos.

The main question is: Does the "AVCHD Standard" Support
low-resolution videos? I think is should.

The goal is to play does file on a PS3.
And perfect would be, to have an AVCHD Disc with menus!

Any ideas, tools, hints?

Well, you said you have H.264/AAC MP4s... did you try to play those?

Yes, the MP4 files play correctly. The reason for having M2TS would be the possibility to create either AVCHD discs with a menu
or maybe BluRay discs.

My goal is to store all my self-made videos in the new format
to save space. And maybe I could store all the videos on one
bluray disc. But for the moment an AVCHD disc would be great.

I finally found a solution on how to make a M2TS out of a MP4:

1) Demux the MP4
2) Convert the AAC sound to AC3
3) Mux the H.264 Video Stream and AC3 Audio Stream with tsMuxeR

So far I haven't checked if these files play on a PS3.

What is missing (for me) is:
Author the M2TS to a AVCHD or BluRay Disk.

So far I tried "Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 with HD Pack" and
Nero Vision 8. Both tools want to upscale and reencode
my PAL 720x576 M2TS files.

Do you know any other tool that can do that without changing the video files / resolution?

Basically, I want an easy menu to select the videos. That's it.

Well, I know that PS3s play H.264 and AC3 in VOB, so you might wanna try using mkv2vob to create one of those and then try adding menus to it.

I've seen that the latest version of TsMuxeR can create a BluRay Structure.
Unfortunately only for one video. Anyone knowing a tool for createing a BluRay (or even AVCHD)
structure with several videos?
My idea is: I have 10 M2TS Videos and want them on one DVD or BluRay disk. Then a short menu
to select the movie would be great, or just the possibility to skip a video and go to the next one.
Video is (and shall stay): 720x576pixel (PAL)

With TSMuxer you can append videos as long as they are the same resolution, by clicking the append button in the gui. You can also enter your own chapters.

I'm not sure this works with SD resolutions, but I've successfully done it with 1920x1080. Subs in all but the first video will need retiming if you are using them.

I just tried this. But this is very inconvenient and user unfriendly.
Maybe I should ask the creator of TsMuxeR if he could write a tool for
my needs. I mean creating a bluray structur cannot be that complicated, is it?

I tested now the 720x576 4:3 AVC movies with AC3 sound in a M2TS Container on the PS3:
The play successfully! Step one is done (using TsMuxeR).

Now I only have to found a way to make a AVCHD or BluRay disk with those movies.
I thought I could use Nero Vision, use a lot of dummy files and then just replace the movies
with the ones I need. But for this I need to change some "binary" files like "CLIPINF" files.

Anyone knows how to do this?

Have you tried multiavchd? It will do simple menus and author the structure

It works for HD, I don't know if it will accept your specs (otherwise shouldn't it be called AVCSD :) )

Yes, I know the AVCHD Specs.

Therefore I convert my MP4's to M2TS (H.264 / AC3).
Since the resolution 720x576 is supported, it should work.

I made it work on my PS3 using multiAVCHD. The only issue
I have is the 16:9 / 4:3 aspect ratio thing.
