DVD freezes every 100 seconds

Not sure where to post this exactly. I ordered two DVDs, one for me and one for a friend. They are obviously made from a VHS original tape since the film was never released on DVD, but when I play it in my standalone Pioneer DVD player it freezes every 100 seconds. One nudge to the fast forward button and it continues.

On my computer DVD player it plays continuously, though a slight hiccup is noticeable every 100 seconds on cue, so I can view it on my computer but its not the same. Also my friend only has a standalone DVD player so I'm worried if he will be able to play his copy.

I have tried ripping the DVD and repackaging it using various DVD tools I found here. It removed like 454 pack headers or something and the size of the VOB files went from 476M on the DVD to the normal 1048M. Still it is freezing every 100 seconds exactly.

I'm pretty much non-technical in the DVD area so please forgive of my questions are basic, but why would it freeze on such a fixed pattern? And any idea what to try short of having to send these back overseas?

Run it through DVDShrink (full disc) burn it and try in your standalone.

If its a dvd5 you won't need any compression.

Are there chapter points at the pauses? Sometimes novices put something in the "Chapter End Action" box while constructing the DVD that would cause this. IE, for chapter 2's end action, putting chapter 3 in the end action box would cause this pause (but it should be brief - but noticeable - and not actually stop a DVD player). The correct action is to leave that box blank when the end action is the next chapter - normal behavior.

You might want to try to demux the original .MP2 file and see if it exhibits the same pausing.
