hi.

i have a film that's in 16:9 widescreen.

when i input it to agk, under the step 1 it says:

"Video info MPEG2 720x576 PAL letbox 16:9 PGC1, length 1:40:28:15"

that's correct, as far as i know.

i choose the language, 1CD size, auto width and XviD.

then i put it in the queue.

i try to preview it and the player pops up and says on screen:

"DirectShowSource: Could not open as video or audio."

the log window says:

Source resolution: 720x576
[7/9/2008 12:20:31 PM] Found PAL source.
[7/9/2008 12:20:31 PM] Source aspect ratio: 4:3
[7/9/2008 12:20:31 PM] Color correction enabled.
[7/9/2008 12:20:31 PM] Output will contain 150715 frames

but it's not 4:3 and it already identified it as 16:9 in step 1.

so i encode it and the AR is wrong. i use the alternative windows media classic 6.4 because it has AR controls. the wmp11 and normal 6.4 don't have AR controls - at least i can't find any.

i also couldn't get the AR corrected in vlc, which is odd.

i was however able to correct it in the GOM player which has a few more AR settings than the alternative mplayer6.4.

i could play it with correct AR on my dvd player by changing the AR settings on my dvd player.

first i encoded using 2.40 stable. then i tried it again with 2.40 and reset all the settings to be sure and got exactly the same results. i didn't keep the log for them. the log above is from 2.48beta - my third try which i didn't complete because i didn't get the preview to work again and i thought i'd better come here first.

so, that's the problem. the AR and the preview. i hope someone can help me out here.

thanks.

so, i don't know why i can't play it correctly with my mplayer 6.4 or wmp11. i don't seem to have a problem with AR when i encode a tv recording in 4:3, but for some reason i do have a problem when the tv recording is in 16:9.

EDIT: i also want to make sure i have everything correctly done because when i share it out on p2p, i don't want anyone to complain about the AR.

Awww, why'd you have to go and say that? Maybe it's legal; maybe it's not. It doesn't matter and I don't care. Read the rules (rule 6):
